Even though I live in Scotland, have experienced the worst of the weather and been inconvenienced for nearly two weeks, I don't think he should resign.

It was an extreme weather front - local councils should have been more prepared but I wouldn't place all the blame on this mans head or expect him to lose his job over it.

I know cologne.. the  wording of his statement sounded like he resigned more over the fact he felt he could have done more on advising the public, but he's been getting absolute pelters in the press here and from the opposition. I'm guessing that means they would have personally gone out with their shovels and dug us all out 

I know.. it  all seems a bit daft. Too much blame stuff and point scoring going on,not enough planning for how we minimise disruption should it happen again

Exactly Slinki - it was the worst weather I can remember and I hear it may return towards the end of next week.

Well quite slinki, how can this poor bloke foresee the extend of the snow? It's just totally ridiculous what people have to resign over these days. How about the big questions being addressed?

The Met Office (and the news) had been forecasting a brief spell of snow on Monday morning.Nothing like the previous weeks heavy falls.But at about 9pm they changed it to a red alert and said we were going to get it much worse.I guess he fell asleep on the job and has felt the need to fall on his sword accordingly.
I know a few people who were stuck on the M8 and A80 for 12-13 hours.
I guess so many thousands of people had a very very hard time of it and someone has to pay.
Was pretty shocking stuff to see mind.

Evenin Gouryellaellaella  It was a shocker..the official advice was not to attempt to travel till after 3 pm   ( the word was the snow was to stop around lunchtime ) Some of my colleagues had to turn back and stay the night at work .. I dumped the car and made it home hours later. 
The week  before,there were gritters blocking the M74  to create some space for them to clear the carriageway - in line with the "expert advice" the press reckoned yer man totally ignored - I think this time there was just too much snow too fast ,and too many cars already trying to head home for those tactics  to work.

They  prefer  to focus on the point scoring unfortunately

Slinki, yes I think the fact that so many travelled thinking it was to be a relatively light snowfall was the problem.

The traffic was so gridlocked the gritters and ploughs could not have reached the main roads even if they wanted to.

I think these things happen. Back home in Germany, we never have a problem because snow is always the expected rather than the possibility. I've lived in Britain (Scotland and England) for 31 years now and I've only experienced this kind of extreme weather about 5 times.

Chrome is your friend! If you're using IE for some reason quotesaren't working.

In fact .. I'm calling for the Minister for Browsers' resignation with immediate effect !

If you are on IE, we've been left out in the cold and nothing works. If you are on FF, bring up the post box, find the post you want to quote and highlight it, find your postbox again and press the " quote thingy. Complicated, I know, but there it is.

This was like nothing I've seen before cologne. it was so fast .

I know slinki, that's why I don't think anybody should have fallen on their swords.

Don't they still use trams up in Scotland? That could be a bit of a prob

 FFS!.Downloaded chrome to no avail.Still no quotes.That does it.I'm going to have to open another can of that piss water they call Tennent's.72 cans for £30 a couple of weeks ago at Tesco's.How could i resist?.

Gouryella, if you install chrome it will work just remember when you press reply to click the quote button first to insert the text you want to reply to. It's not wildly intuitive but you get used to it fast.

Highlight the text you want to reply to. Click reply. The way it was before the text you want to quote came up automatically it doesn't anymore you have to click the quote icon first (top right) then type your reply.

should work Goury - are you highlighting the text you want to quote then pressing the wee quote thang ( three in from right ) in the reply box?

FF is a better bet.

Could be. In this case maybe Firefox.

You have to move the reply box( positioning the mouse pointer over the top bar of aforesaid) and place it in the same frame as the post you want to quote- this entails scrolling and moving the box till you have the two in the same frame then highlght the text to quote and click the small quote icon(3rd from left ) A lot of messing about i know, but untill we get a Quote button this is what i do.
