Yes but, no but......they don't weigh a lot do they? (*Wink* smilie, can't get smilies X).....and take their heavy wear out on the roads...that need repairing....

Who for?.....I don't want to dodge the cyclist whilst strolling along the pavement eating an icecream!

Nah, cyclists who use pavements are fannies.

Unless they're pulling mad stuntz, in which case it's the law.

And I don't want to have to dodge a cyclist whilst driving on the road... whats worse? The risk of someone losing their life or someone losing their ice-cream? Its already bad enough avoiding those 16 year olds driving those over-powered hairdryers.

As for charging cyclists? Well, they are road users too. They are also able to skip through red lights with no comeback, pay no congestion charge...etc.

And before anyone says they don't cause congestion, try driving from West to South London in the morning, it's like the bloody Tour de France

I think if people use a bike to commute on a daily basis, especially in high traffic/ built up areas, then maybe they should pay some kind of fee to do so? On the flip side of that though they are not protected by insurance. So us drivers can play skittles all day long, a granny is 50 points they literally take their life into their hands when they venture out on to the roads with nothing to back them up if you get what I mean.

I still get a cold chill when I see toddlers or small children on a bike with their parents on the road in heavy traffic areas. It's not as common now, thankfully.

I know what what you mean ......BUT........would'nt it be nice if we could take our kids out on our bikes......without the "Cold Chill" feeling of doom around us.....the World (Including me) is a sadder place.......

Don't think they should pay road tax, but oooo this does annoy me, not just 2s and 3s but 4s, 5s, sometimes more in my part of the world... i compare them to horse riders, yes I'll always slow down and sit behind them, but the horse riders pretty much always then go into single file and thank you...the cyclists v v rarely do, (in my experience)

Why do people use bikes to travel? Are they showing everyone how fit they want to be? Or are they just twats that clog the road up? (and pay no tax). I will go for the latter. You can get those exercise bikes at home if you want to get fit but no, nobody will ever see how incredibly fit you're trying to be so you annoy cars instead in the hope that your aspiration to super fitness will be recognised complete with a stupid hat during your pointless endeavours.

Cars are faster. Stay at home with your stupid hat and ride a fake bike. You'll live longer and we won't be sick of trying to swerve round you while calling you increasingly inventive and creative insulting names which should not be repeated on this nice, family, God-fearing forum.

'cos, if you haven't got far to go /live in an area where there is heavy traffic congestion  it makes absolute sense and/or it is also enjoyable...I get that completely...Oh and some people can't afford cars or can't drive for a whole host of reasons.....My dad went everywhere on his bike, never had a motor!

Syd replies.......Cos it costs nothing and works the muscles....and if in the country,  views are good.

Syd replies.......How boring...unless you can't get out on a non fake bike, then good on you for riding a bike (don't wear a hat tho).

 You'll live longer

Syd replies....... We will all live as long as we live.......rode a bike in 1975 on the Isle of Wight on holiday, poodling along side by side with my friend down a country lane......landed on top of an oncomming car......still here...and still want peeps to enjoy the country lanes on two wheels.....

You missed out the "im doing my bit for the environment" arguement....

If you use the road the answer should probably be yes. If you're sane and regardless of whether you're cycling or driving if you're being taxed just for using the road the answer should probably be no.

What is road tax for?

Syd

ohhhh there are so many things I would like to say but the British PC Brigade would have a field day. I think I might just sit & read this again & giggle to myself. Actually even better I'll share it with my Aussie mates with my thoughts & they'll have a laugh too.

Just one question though, I thought that cyclists were getting insurance now because of road rage or something like that?
