It would be ideal if that were to happen, some will have no qualms in doing so,others will run a mile as they know there are rules and regulations they'd have to adhere to in their rental property. Some are unfit for habitation by past council guidelines but folk desperately in need of accommodation often are prepared to take them usually with a *Promise* all necessary work will be seen to.

Oh Indeed,I'm  in a housing association property, what is called up here a four in a block cottage flats.Fine, because my two neighbours next to me and above are good neighbours. The lady upstairs is  an owner occupier, she bought her flat from the council years ago, fair enoughHowever these houses are defective and require major refurshibment, this has been passed and  the process is ongoing. However it means that many elderly folk that bought the flats years ago have passed on and their families etc don't want to live in them,so we have auction sales only.I will state that the "Buyers" that are now renting out the houses are charging twice the rent that housing association does. They know that housing benefit will make up the shortfall.

I get so angry when the the Tories bang on about about the cost of housing benefit etc.Well hello! your old bag Thatcher caused it by selling off council houses etc ,now they are snatched up by folk making money out of them.

Most decent landlords here used to register with the NIHE,some as private rentals, others as short term emergency housing, the latter reaped a higher financial return.Properties all had to meet regulations obviously. When  someone applied for housing ,depending on their circumstances, they could be provided with the list of private rentals if they wanted to avail of a property in the interim period until a suitable NIHE property became available. It may have changed, probably has,but yes letting agents are beneficial to landlord and tenant.
