is it just me - but this episode was heartbreaking

people with no food in this day and age Shake Head

a 23 year old boy running a food run from a church store - bless him Disappointed

the polish couple - lovely - but i was in doubts that she gave them the lion's share of her charity Confused

7,000 to the food run
7,000 to the youth cafe
7,000 to the young mums

13,000 to the polish couple to get a bigger house Confused

my heart went out to the lovely young couple with three kiddies

they were a most worthy cause indeed but this amount was a bit of an odd choice

absolutely give them perhaps 7,000 - the same as the rest but what about that poor boy that had nothing in his flat but 4 walls Disappointed

surely the food run needed the lion's share

can i be candid chummies Disappointed Glance

she didn't give much away did she Roll Eyes

she boasted spending more on her dogs a week than her allowance of job seekers allowance Roll Eyes

and of her collection of shoes Roll Eyes

sorry - but there are millionaires and millionaires Roll Eyes Nod Shake Head

that nick laslau chappie that donated to a dire area in scotland - he gave huge life changing amounts and didn't just dump the poor people - he set up a plan for the next 5 years!

friends - i could have given more out of my coin purse than this 'lady of a certain age'

my advice to her;
sell the 'outside spa' and see how much you can get for your overly made-up friends and send it to the food run Shake Head

You're so right Lil. I gave up watching this programme ages ago because it used to make me so angry at the miserly amount these multi millionaires used to give lovely decent people. I know every little helps but when you think of it a million pounds is thousand thousand pounds.
I just knew by your one last night she was as tough as old boots. I would die of shame if I was in her shoes to hand over the miserly amount which she gave to that wonderful young man and the chap who was doing so much for the elderely and young.
P
paace - it has became it's own cliche

i totally agree with you - but last night really took the biscuit

7,000 grand to save a food run Disappointed

usually it's about 20,000 for starters

it's the way she gave it over like - isn't this good of me

the polish couple were in trouble - oh those sweet decent people - but to give then the majority of the money was inappropriate

give them 10,000 grand if you must

but the excess three grand could feed so many other mouths Disappointed

Maybe she's got where she is today by being a tightwad?

some are gracious but this woman was like standing back and looking for tears

here's 5p to save your charity Smiler
waits for hug

Urghhh, dear. Still, I suppose those receiving it will be grateful and make good use of it, regardless.

there's an old black and white movie called 'the bishops wife' with the fab david niven and the handsome gary grant

dave niven is the bishop and prays for mega money to build a new cathedral

just then cary grant appears as 'an angel' Angel in a bespoke suit Crazy

anyway there's this line in it where cary grant says 'why did you pray for huge amounts of money to build one house when the same money could build so many little houses'

basically david niven wos 'up imself' Disappointed

anyway it worked out in the end Disappointed Crazy

my point being that needy as that sweet couple were - she should have given the biggest amount to the food run

my goodness that poor 23 year old was doing it pretty much himself Frowner

what about the poor boy in the flat with only four walls , that told us his money goes on heating - if he can afford it and electricity Frowner

that's why he can't really afford food

i wanted to cry - i bet every city has the same 'silent ones' out there

i bet we pass people in the street that look ok but are totally struggling Thumbs Upthen Frowner

the system stinks Mad

the bloody supermarkets are minted because people will always need food

i think they should all donate to centres in every city to make sure people and kiddies have food

sure they donate out of date sarnies to the salvation army - Roll Eyes but i am talking a serious donation of the basics Disappointed

i wish i was prime minister Frowner Big Grin

I agree Lil she seemed a nice lady but as you say it wasn't much

The young lad that ran the church food parcels deserves a medal he was such a lovely genuine bloke

It annoys me now as some of them seem so expentant of the money as they must watch the programme they almost rip the cheque out of her hand so it kind of spoils the surprise

That's a good idea, lil Nod
They all keep posting massive profits and the goverment has talked about a 'windfall tax' on them , but this would be much better. I'd rather it was paid in as food to people who need it, rather than in yet more taxes to be abused by greedy MPs.

That was from my home town, although I live just outside it now. We recognised some of the people. My son and I were in tears. Crying

It used to be a vibrant working city but with the descimation of the factories and boatyards( Thatcherism) its dying in a sense for the working class boy/girl/woman/man. Prolific for universities, invention, medicines, arts but nothing for the ordinary person who may not be quite as clever. Tesco/McDonalds is some their options.

Not many of them give much away!

There was only one (think he was in the last series) who gave really life changing amounts away. Sums like ÂĢ250,000 etc which would really make a big difference.

yes - nick laslau 'thingy' super chap with a 'rea' business brain Disappointed

i simply wanted to burst out crying - to the man in the street he looked like an ordinary young chap and yet behind closed doors he had
nothing and had to rely on the food run

i was shocked when the food run chap said that he had encountered people that hadn't eaten for a few weeks Frowner

i would suggest that even if the supermarkets had a donation bin to help these charities - it would be a start

obviously, in these climz people barely have enough to fill their own cupboards but i think people would rally and even donate 'the basics' from 'the basics' range

i mean they have one for pedigree chum - which is super but is it too non politically correct to have one for humans as well

i did note that the food run supplies were from tesco - so perhaps tesco were on board already
EDWARDIAN LIL
Yes, surely to god it would have been better to try and come up with some long-term support, but I think these progs are basically narcissistic PR exercises where for the price of a week's dog food and shoes she gets the warm furry glow of telly publicity.

Seven grand was a big old joke to that 23 yr old kid, twas but a piss in the ocean, and to totally ignore the boy with NOTHING was just breathtaking.

I agree with you, they seem to be EXPECTING anyone with a camera crew to be the 'secret' millionaire, you can see them acting their reaction. Very strange and the format no longer works.

I wonder how much it cost to pay the camera crew and production staff? Helluva lot more that seven chuffing grand. Maybe the truly altruistic would have given so much more ON THE QUIET.

But that wouldn't satisfy a nation of docile sentimental eejits, would it?

That prog actually gets me a bit Mad

Yes Thatcher`s damage has been done, not only in Dundee. They chose ONE of the worst parts of Dundee but there are many more just the same. Housing schemes, and there ar many here, are rife with the same problems. One millionaire, however much it is appreciated, will never fix it..it`s a sorry mess.

I love watching the moment when they deliver their news. It's not the reactions but the way they say it that I find interesting. It's very hard to do it gracefully and most fail. Laugh

It's all very telling.
