When I was growing up and not much was said about the ill effects of sun exposure, we would use baby oil with a little bit of iodine mixed in.

Just fried our skin!

We used to buy Coconut Oil stuff and lie out in the sun until we could smell bacon frying!

We didn't add too much, just about a teaspoon to a big bottle. I suppose it was a bit like fake tan, but it was never like the orange stuff used today!

well it doesn't say all scots do but I'm sure a fe are thick enough to do that as I'm sure a few are down south. It is true when we get a 30 second window of sun we are all outside stripped off though !!

Although there was a story about a woman smearing chip fat on herself years ago and had to be admitted to hospital with third degree burns.

I use factor 50 but I read that article too

When I was a kid my neighbour used to use olive oil and I used to worry about her even though she must have been in her forties and should have known better.

Us Celts tan differently anyway. First we go a fetching shade of blue, then we pass through deepening stages of redness until we reach full mauve.
I dont know if it's true but I have been told that spray tanning booths north of the border are stocked with tomato ketchup rather than the HP sauce you get south of the border.
