I didn't hear the speech, but did he not say he was giving similar power to England, NI and Wales?

No idea, I haven't listened to any news for days, I was all referendummed out and  the other news is so depressing, I'm giving it a miss for the foreseeable.

I think it's a good thing, especially for the really neglected areas of the country, it all depends on how the regions are split up, can't see populations of country folk being happy if they are to be administered by Leeds or some such,it'll take some sorting out.

They will, or a great deal of it....and will fall over themselves in their haste to backtrack as much as possible.

Thanks for the hugs though.

It can't have been easy to be outnumbered on here and I know you will be disappointed with the result, but you fought your corner well and held your own, and you retained your sense of humour throughout.

Let's call a spade a spade ...Scotland said No!!

As for "It can't be easy being outnumbered"...WTF is that about?

This is a forum ....difference of opinion happens...move on .

It's about me feeling some empathy for Fluffs, who was pretty much a lone YES supporter on here. Even though I don't share her views on independence, I know she is passionate in her beliefs, just I am in mine. I feel for her, because I know how disappointed I would have been if the shoe had been on the other foot this morning and there had been a YES vote. Not sure if I've explained that very well but I know what I mean.

I hear you Yogi ..as a "no" voter it was a night to celebrate and when I read that it was difficult to forget the shit we took from the Yes campaigners...but your right... we move on  .

Alex Salmond has said he will stand down as Scotland's first minister and Scottish National party leader after failing to secure a majority for independence in Thursday's referendum.

He told a press conference in his official residence of Bute House that he would stand down as first minister in November when a new SNP leader will be chosen.

Salmond said: "For me right now there is a decision as to who is best placed to lead this process forward politically.

"I believe that in this new exciting situation, redolent with possibility, party, parliament and country would benefit from new leadership".

He said that he would not accept the SNP's nomination to be a candidate for leader at the party's annual conference in Perth in November, allowing a new party leader to be elected.

Given the SNP's majority in the Scottish parliament, the new leader will also become first minister.

The SNP deputy leader, Nicola Sturgeon, is widely seen as the most likely successor to the long-serving Salmond.

Salmond added that the most important thing to the independence cause was not about who was first minister of Scotland.

Hi Erin,

I think you may have missed the point of my post and also that I may have been in the 'Yes' camp.

As a Yorkshireman (Englishman second ) my interest in it was not as a voter, but as someone who (knowing there are a number of Scots on the forum) wanted to see how they presented arguments for either a 'yes' or 'no' vote and also if their opinion changed over the course of the debate up to and including the day of the vote.

Personally I started out as a "keep us together" person, although I could not back it up with too many good points, to a small degree my gut felt that we would be better together. But I was open to a sound argument.

As for my comment about the Westminster three, I was just commenting on the fact that politicians say one thing to get what they want then seem to forget some or all of what they promised at the outset.

Hope that explains better where I was coming from.
