Strictly Come Dancing 2012 bosses have reportedly signed their oldest ever  contestant, former children’s TV presenter Johnny Ball, for the new series.

The Sun claims that an β€˜enthusiastic’ Johnny – who fronted several  science-themed shows throughout the 80s – has already impressed in training.

At 74, he is two years ahead of the previous record holder Paul Daniels, who  was 72 when he took to the dancefloor in 2010.

A source said: β€œJohnny might be 74 but he’s got some puff. He has looked  after himself over the years and is really game. It would be foolish to write  him off as some old duffer just there for laughs, like John Sergeant.

β€œHe’s been showing off some moves in training that would put much younger  celebs to shame.”

If he joins the line-up, Johnny will end up appearing alongside daughter Zoe  Ball, who was recently confirmed as the new presenter of spin-off show  Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two.

Zoe was previously a contestant on the 2005 series, coming third with her  professional partner Ian Waite.

Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Come Dancing 2012 hits the telly next month, and rumours about the  celebrity line up are flying around!

Here’s all the latest rumours surrounding the Strictly Come Dancing line up,  set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Sid Owen

Eastenders star Sid Owen is being lined up for the new series of Strictly  Come Dancing, it has been claimed.

The Sun reports that the London actor – who plays mechanic Ricky Butcher in  the BBC One soap – is set to take to the dance floor this autumn.

And he’s not the only Eastenders star set to appear on Strictly, with actress  Charlie Brooks being previously tipped to join the line up earlier this  year.

Chris Evans

After the success of Matt Baker and Alex Jones, it’s no surprise to hear that  BBC bosses want The One Show’s other presenter Chris Evans.

Comic Chris is said to be on a β€œhitlist” of names that Beeb chiefs want for  the new series of the show.

β€œChris would be a brilliant signing,” a source told The Sun  recently. β€œHe is a TV legend and would bring his own brand of humour and  charisma to the show, not to mention nine million Radio 2 fans and five million  One Show fans.”

Beth Tweddle

Olympic star Beth Tweddle is one of a number of London 2012 successes who has  been tipped to appear in the new series.

The Team GB gymnast won her first Olympic medal in the games earlier in the  summer, and TV bosses have jumped on the chance to get her on the next run of  Strictly.

β€œThe bosses have made it clear their priority is to secure as many London  2012 competitors as possible,” a source told The Sun. β€œThe Games are by  far the biggest event of the year and they want to reflect that by getting some  big sporting names on board.”

Jerry Hall

Supermodel Jerry Hall is another name set to appear in Strictly Come Dancing  2012 this year.

It’s hoped that the 54-year-old, famous for dating rocker Mick Jagger, will  add β€œglamour” to this year’s list of celebrities.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper earlier last week: β€œEveryone  will want to know if, like the song, she moves like Jagger.”

Sian Williams

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Sian Williams is set to return to the channel  for Strictly this year. Sian previously danced in a charity special of Strictly  with Vincent in November.

Amy Williams

Bob skeleton rider Amy, who won gold in the winter Olympics back in 2010, is  also set to take to the dance floor this autumn.

She’s sure to be fit enough for the challenge!

Michael Vaughan

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has also reportedly signed up for  Strictly Come Dancing 2012.

According to The Sun, Michael has agreed a deal to join the show’s celebrity  line up for the new series in September.

But he only signed after reassurance from pals, including footie star Robbie  Savage who took part last year.

Ashleigh & Pudsey?

Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashleigh Butler could be set to appear on  Strictly Come Dancing 2012.

The 17-year-old is set to split from her dancing dog Pudsey for the show,  which returns to BBC One in September.

β€œI’d love to do Strictly. It would be nice to show people who I am,” the  school girl told the Daily Star.

Noel Gallagher?

Rocker Noel Gallagher has turned down Strictly Come Dancing 2012, although  bookies reckon he still might sign up!

The Oasis singer claimed he would have taken part in the BBC One series if it  wasn’t for his busy schedule.

He said: β€œI’m flattered. I’d have done it an’ all… Sadly though, I’m a bit  busy. Maybe next time…”

But bookies make the rocker 5/1 that he will sign up!

Davina McCall?

Former Big Brother telly host Davina McCall has said she’d love to sign up  for Strictly Come Dancing 2012.

Davina, who now hosts Got To Dance on Sky 1 and ITV’s hit Long Lost Families,  admitted she wants to take part in the BBC One dancing series

β€œI love the idea of the dresses, the dancing, the romance,” Davina told The  Sun today.

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have reportedly decided not to film in Blackpool Tower this year.

The BBC show usually holds a special event towards the end of it’s series, which is staged in the grand old ballroom. The stunning room is 120 ft x 120 ft and is made up of 30,602 blocks of mahogany, oak and walnut. Above the stage is the inscription, β€œBid me discourse, I will enchant thine ear” from the poem Venus and Adonis by William Shakespeare and each crystal chandelier can be lowered to the floor to be cleaned which takes over a week.

However The Sun reports that producers have made the decision to skip using the stunning location this year and will instead keep filming in the Beeb studios, in a bid to control costs.

It seems that the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing bosses and ITV’s X Factor chiefs have been having a little game of We Landed A Big Name Celeb & You Didn’t! which has seen Strictly coming out victorious in a battle in which Celine Dion was up for grabs.

Not literally obviously – she wasn’t dangled from one of those arcade hooks that teasingly promise to drop a prize if you manoeuvre the lever properly – but she has signed up to sing on Strictly after The X Factor bosses wanted her to sing live, but Strictly were happy with a pre-recorded performance.

A TV insider told the Daily Mirror that Celine will β€œbelt out some classic hits on the ballroom show in the lead-up to Christmas.”

The source added, β€œIt’s been insane! X Factor wanted contestants to fly out to Las Vegas and sing live… Read more & comment Β»

Tyger Drew-Honey & Dani Harmer [Let's Dance 2012)

Tracy Beaker star Dani Harmer has become the first celebrity confirmed for  Strictly Come Dancing 2012.

The news comes as it’s revealed that musical Disco Inferno, which Dani was  set to star in, has been cancelled.

It’s been claimed that investors behind the stage show withdrew after Dani  quit to take part in Strictly.

A BBC spokesman for the BBC commented: β€œWe’re delighted Dani is on board for  Strictly and, when booked, was 100% available.”

Dani is the first celebrity to be confirmed for this year’s Strictly, which  starts on September 15.

Writing on her Twitter account, the 23-year-old said: β€œI would just like to  send a massive apology to everyone that has booked tickets to see Disco Inferno!  Unfortunately the tour has been cancelled!

β€œOn behalf of all the cast thank you to all your amazing tweets from you guys  who have seen and enjoyed it! We’re all gutted.”

She later added: β€œLooking forward to my next adventure. Can’t wait to tell  you all what I’m doing next! So excited.”

A spokesman for Dani told the BBC News Website: β€œWe share the disappointment  of Dani’s fans that the Disco Inferno tour was regrettably cancelled.

β€œBut we’re delighted that the BBC have offered Dani this exciting  opportunity, which she is now able to confirm.”

Earlier this year Dani made the final of BBC One’s Let’s Dance for Sport  Relief alongside Outnumbered’s Tyger Drew-Honey.

Blonde beauty Denise Van Outen has become the latest name linked to the  Strictly Come Dancing 2012 line up.

The former West End singer will join the likes of Kimberley Walsh on the show  when it launches next Saturday night on BBC One.

β€œDenise has loads of rhythm and she’s superfit so she should be a great  contestant,” a source told The Sun this morning. β€œShe’s never done  ballroom before but she’s certainly got the raw materials to wow on the dance  floor.”

It’s a return for Denise to BBC One, but this time she’ll be the one being  judged.

The performer was previously a panelist alongside Lord Webber on his reality  talent shows Any Dream Will Do and How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?

The source told the tabloid this morning: β€œHaving been on the other side of  the table, Denise will really want to impress the judges.”

The Strictly Come Dancing launch show will air next Saturday from 6:30PM,  where the celebrities will find out which dancers they’ve been partnered  with.

They’ll then have three weeks worth of training before the first live shows  kick off on October 5.

Richard Arnold

Daybreak’s Showbiz correspondent has confirmed reports that he’ll be taking  to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor this year.

Said to be an β€œeleventh hour” choice for the line up to add fun to the show,  Richard joked: β€œI had to do it – Brucie called!”

Nicky Byrne

Westlife star Nicky Byrne is set to take to the Strictly dancefloor this  autumn after becoming the latest star of the line up to be confirmed.

Nicky, who has performed on the show before, revealed: β€œWhen Westlife were on  Strictly, I remember looking at the contestants and seeing the fear in their  eyes.”
