I don't have a photo because the 'powers that be' have done away with the signs, but the next village to mine is called Crappstone and there used to be a sign on the main road for Crappstone and underneath a sign for 'Free Toilets'.

That's the funny bit Cologne, the signs underneath them. Thye were making us laugh so much last night on google. How dare they remove the crappstone signs. People will not know if they have just entered or just leaving.
Thanks, Evelyn!

I know. There is one that I might be able to get a photo of. It's in the middle of the moor and the signposts says Yelverton, Underneath, somebody made a homemade one saying 'dogging'. It's true as well.
So, Evelyn's post above got stuck in the filter (not sure why). I approved it because it's been altered to be semi-respectable
I knew i had posted a few that didn't show straight away.
Will try for another semi- respectable.

Do you know of any funny or peculiar names to add.? I think once we have exhausted the rude ones we can go onto unusual or funny names of places.

Evening Have we exhausted every avenue do you think? Is there anymore corkers i have missed.
Hmmmm.....I live in a place full of Native American names that only we can pronounce properly: Sequim, Suquamish, Stillaguamish, Puyallup (that's the dead ringer--if someone can't say it properly, they aren't from here )
But I don't know how interesting that really is, especially compared to what I've seen in this thread.

I once worked with a woman who lived in a place called Pratt's Bottom, in Kent.
It's probably my mum..! She got so fed up with it that she moved up the hill to Knockholt.Didn't stop her having to drive through there AND Badger's Mount everyday though!

I know, huh? Cry me a river...

But at least you have been to those places, or have heard of them near you.I have not been to any *cough* unusual named places, only Twat, Why not, and Spot.. not as interesting as Sequim, Suquamish, Stillaguamish, Puyallup.

Anyone been to Humptulips?
According to Wiki, "The name Humptulips may have come from a local Native American language, meaning 'hard to pole', referring to the difficulty local Native Americans had poling their canoes along the Humptulips River. According to other sources the word means 'chilly region'"
