It does seem as though the justice system is a bit screwed up. As far as I am aware, Biggs has done no other crimes since he escaped. What is the point of keeping him in? Surely it would save the taxpayers a few quid if he were released.

I don't understand it. That Mandolf bloke got 150 years for conning several people out of billions, and murderers are given a lot less time.

Nobody died as a result of the train robbery he died years later of something else.Train driver

There are criminals in this country who have more power than the system. I even remember the NOTW not following up with a promised article.

That's beside the point....if he wanted to have been out and free by now he should have stayed in prison where he was originally and he'd have been out a long time ago....instead he decided to live it up in Brazil for 30 years!

This confuses me a lot: armed robbers get more than Rapists murderers peodophiles: So basically money is more important than life and individual sufferings Confused

It's a different system. Murderers are quite likely to be executed in the US. Assuming that they have pigmentation and no money.

Sorry, you're quite right, I thought it was determined that his injuries were a contributing factor to his early death, but they weren't. Though he did suffer poor health for the rest of his life which was attributed to the trauma of his experience.

When I was 11 I was standing in the dinner queue at school when two lads started a fight. One threw a punch and the other ducked and I got punched in the face into a brick wall. I woke up with a black eye and facial bruising. A week after the event I started having severe migraines and ended up having all sorts of scans and assessments for brain injury. I still get the migraines to this day. I would say that was down to injury not trauma.

Oooh sorry to hear that. I don't wanna derail the thread... I would presume that you did suffer some extra damage though? A black eye is just bruising after all...I've had loads with no lasting bother.

Any case, I'll leave it there, I wasn't casting aspersions on the fella...just Wiki's content/editing process.

I know you didn't mean anything by it, I just wanted to point out that it's difficult to tell with head injuries. The bloke was coshed over the head with a lead pipe or something, you don't know what got knocked about in there. They didn't find any major damage with me but it was supposed that something had been dislodged, I can't remember the technicalities, it was soo long ago, but it's always struck me (no pun intended) that the same thing probably happened to the victim, it's just that they didn't have brain scans in his day so they wouldn't have been able to properly diagnose the injury.

Murderers have an enormous impact locally but a much smaller impact on society as a whole provided they are rare. I think crimes like Madoff's are treated so harshly because if they were not then there would be huge temptation for powerful people in the financial systems to try it. If confidence in the financial system collapses then we all suffer significantly. As we have all seen since summer 2007.

OK he escaped, but no matter that the guard was hit, nobody died

The guard died a few years later, which was said to be because of being hit over the head during the raid.

Can we really know that LL? If so, then Biggs deseves to finish his sentence
