I think Penny will be around for a long time to look after the child. I'm sure Rod will love the baby .......................in all honesty men can father children until they're really, really old - women can't. Penny obviously want's his child ........he may not be around forever but let's face it a lot of guys leg it even before the baby's born.

I'm sure it is a wanted baby and will be loved. That's gotta be good hasn't it?

I think it's lovely news TBH. A wanted baby who will be loved ............far preferable than a teenage mistake - unwanted and parent/s too immature and ill prepared to make a good job of it.

No doubt the baby's wanted and no question that financially they are very secure, I'm just thinking that when that child gets to 10, Rod will be 76. Just feels really weird to me.

He's not really a typical 76 year old though. Some kids dont have a father at all. In all honesty - what is 'the typical family' these days?

True, and you're right, he isn't your average 66 year old I suppose. It just seems more acceptable cos he's famous, whereas if it were an average, everyday couple I wonder what the thoughts would be? I'm also thinking that the poor kid could suffer ridicule at school, but like you said, he has aged well.

Mmm on the one hand it does seem q old, especially when you think that, even if he lives' til he's 100 the child will be fatherless by its mid 30s, but on the other hand, Rod is a fit and healthy 66yr old  with bundles of energy and I'm sure the child will be much loved. A guy in my village who is in his 60s fathered his first child last year and you'd struggle to find any man as pleased about it as  he is or a more devoted dad.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ............that's so sweet - we all have a very set idea about a typical family. You can look at all sort of logistics - my dad was a young dad but died aged 58.

There is no set rules................all life is precious. Age has bugger all to do with it IMO ...........some of the very young mums I see out when shopping are a fecking disgrace .....................alternatively I saw a very young couple on the bus today with two little kiddies and it warmed my heart.

And rightly so. Maybe he'd always wanted a child but the opportunity never presented itself before.

I don't see anything wrong with it.... 66 or not, I still would.       It's all been said - no guarantee a 21 year old father is still gonna be around when the child grows up, even if the odds are loads better.     I like Rod - and Penny - and it's not their first child together.  Glad wee Alistair is going to have (another) sibling.   Carry on Rod, you'll have a full football team yet.

That's kind of exactly what I mean. As far as I'm aware though he did take responsibility later in life and I think he's part of the childs life now. At eighteen years old he didn't plan the baby. This time he has........................OK - he won't have what is considered a 'normal' long life with the baby but he's not at deaths door.

Maybe he won't be there to see the child get married etc. etc. ................................a lot of fathers aren't simply because they can't be arsed!

When all's said and done, I don't think it's any of my business how many kids people have, or how old they are when they have them, as long as I'm not expected to pay for them.

For a normal person I'd say it's pretty irresponsible.  But as he's filthy rich, I suppose his kid will be OK financially if and when Rod pops off his mortal coil.

I was adopted and my father was 66 at the time. He died when I was 8 and I can't count the times that still upsets me. I wish he could have been around until I was through Uni and more settled.

But at the same time, you could have had a shit dad who spawned you at 18 and then spent the rest of your life being a drain on your soul. Quality, not quantity.

I don't understand how it's unfair... would you say to someone who lost their Dad at say, 10 years old "you should never have been born"?   Of course you wouldn't.  Yes, it's tragic to lose a parent and it hurts like hell whether you're 5 or 50 years old, but that doesn't mean your life's worthless and should never have happened?
