It's interesting what their government is doing as the World Cup approaches. The 'people' live on some prime real estate - looks like some estate agents are making a mint off it !!

Wouldn't surprise me EC ...the programme I was watching was about a big 5tar hotel ....and it's staff ....some of whom lived in those areas.....the contrast was astounding !

The narrator is very good, speaking in a very English way from a Brazilian perspective. A well done documentary.

Unsurprisingly there are a lot of people who struggle in Rio and live in the quite extraordinary favelas.

They look quite unbelievable in their construction.

BBC Two if anyone is interested or wants to catch-up.

"Documentary series exploring Rio's shanty-towns, the favelas, and the government's military campaign to wrest control from the drug gangs."

Another viewpoint is that death squads are wiping out 'troublesome' street-kids to tidy away anything and anyone that might make the area look dangerous to tourists.
