Great Britain have finished second in the Rio 2016 medal table - above China for the first time.

China are one of the Games' dominant nations, with more than 200 gold medals since debuting in 1984.

Britain has 27 golds to China's 26 and their superior haul of silvers - 22 to 18 - means China cannot overtake them with only one more athlete in action.

Boxer Joe Joyce fights for gold on Sunday, meaning Britain are guaranteed to improve on that tally.

The British team have won golds across 15 sports in Rio, and have a total of 66 medals in 19 sports - beating the total of 65 at London 2012.

They have become the first host nation to improve their medal total at the next Games.

Indeed! Redgrave and Pinsent winning the only Gold for Team GB at Atlanta '96 is a long way behind us now!

Cold Sweat

I was reading an article which said that the Olympic Committee don't actually recognise medals tables and at one point it was total medals that was used to determine rank before settling on golds.

So we have finished 2nd or 3rd depending on how you wish to view it - and you can choose for yourselves.

Personally, if Yorkshire were a country ...well you know the rest.

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities

Two shows in, and I have to say that if you're not watching "The Last Leg: Live at Rio", you're seriously missing out. I know that several FMs are already fans, but now that it's back on "home soil" with the Paralympics it's a strong contender for "Funniest show on TV".

And Josh and Alex actually took part in the opening ceremony!

Eugene's Lair

Cyclist Megan Giglia won GB's first medal of the games with gold in the C1-2-3 3km individual pursuit!

And Sarah Storey won her 12th Paralympic gold by winning the C5 3km individual pursuit, thus overtaking Tanni Grey-Thompson as our most successful Paralympian!

Correction: that should have read "our most successful female Paralympian."

Britain's most successful Paralympian ever is Mike Kenny, with 16 gold and 2 silver medals!

Don't know if you heard, Baz, but there was a lovely story about the silver medallist in the C5 3km - fellow Brit, Crystal Lane. Lane took up cycling after watching her heroine Sarah Storey compete at Beijing - and now she's competing against her at the Paralympics!

I was away on a training course last week, and the last couple of nights have been chaotic as I've tried to catch up with viewing and posting (amongst other things!)

However with the Rio closing ceremony tonight, I just wanted to post the following from "The Last Leg" about Paralympians as inspiration and role models:

          In reply to

Inspiration doesn't belongs to things, but to eyes which can seeks it. But thanks!Your words were my brightest Gold
