Yeah, that's a bit heavy going.  I'm not surprised it's controversial.  You've got to hand it to Rihanna, for someone so young, she's really pushing the boundaries of the lightweight genre that is R&B/Pop in all kinds of directions and although that style is not really my thing, she's doing her own thing (or at least appears to be) with a distinct Caribbean style.  She's also very beautiful, which is really why I clicked on the video!

Similarities with Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff", perhaps?

The video implies Rihanna's character's rape and then her character carrying out the retributive murder of her rapist. Fairly controversial, I'd say for a mainstream artist.

I agree  She has a really harsh and brash voice, and quite annoying.  But I like some of her songs.  And she is propa fit!    ella ella is annoyingly catchy!

Yes she does have a harsh voice.  It works well on some songs and can grate on others.  There seems to be a whole load of singers who've cropped up in recent times who are imitating her style. Oh, and she's propa fit, as starbug15 says.

I've noticed that. Jessie J, Pixie Lott, etc. You could sandblast walls with their voices. Awful!
