My mother-in-law went to hospital yesterday for a minor eye procedure and because Princess Ann was there on a visit all the clinics were running HOURS late. Bloody cheek of it, people do have other things to do

back yet from the idiots midwives torture rituals?
Hope everything goes well.
Back from the hospital. My 12 year old physio was very apologetic about the glaring incompetence mix up and handed me a standard maternity belt which she acknowledged probably wouldn't help much. I now have to wait for the Fem Brace which could take a 'few' weeks to be delivered. You never know, I might be lucky and get it before I enter the delivery room. So still no further on with the SPD pain management really.
have you made a complaint yet?quote:Originally posted by Queen of the High Teas:

Not yet, but I am definitely going to. My friend has just qualified as a midwife and she says I really should do it. Thing is I don't want to make it difficult for myself, if I complain I'll have to go all the way into Huddersfield to have routine blood pressure tests etc rather than just being able to pop over to the surgery. It's difficult to judge when the best time to do it will be, I'm tempted to leave it until as late as possible just for an easier life. That said, I couldn't get an appointment this week to see a midwife so I have to wait until next week so maybe I would have been better going to the hospital after all.
you can get blood pressure tests at Boots pharmacies I think it is. If not, it would prob be worth buying a BP tester yourself instead of putting yourself thru the stress of having to go to this awful place

I've got one but the hospital won't accept non-medically trained readings. Because I'm classed as high risk, I'm also supposed to have my urine checked, and at some point I suppose someone is supposed to start measuring my bump at the routine visits. Although, I do only have a few weeks left now and none of this has been done yet. Maybe I don't need it after all.

that's really serious. BP & urine tests are to check for toxemia/preeclampsia which I had with baby 2. It can kill you. They should be monitoring it very closely. Sorry don't mean to scare you it's just I don't want others to go thru what I did because of inept medical staffquote:Originally posted by Queen of the High Teas:quote:Originally posted by Koala Brother:

Oh QOTHT, bless you heart.
I think you should have another chat with your GP and let him/her advise you.
At my surgery they have healthcare assistants who take bloods, check BPs & urines and we have a NHS Walk In Centre in Blackpool which is staffed by nurses so apart from checks that need to be done by midwives, you would be getting as good or better care than you are at present.
I do think that you should be having a serious word with your Practice Manager too.

I know about the pre-eclampsia risk, that's what the tests are for. I was told I was high risk because I have high blood pressure, I'm 38, overweight with an immediate family history of stillbirths and cot deaths. That's why I'm supposed to be under shared care with the consultant. I think that's what's made me so frustrated. They scared the bejeesus out of me when I first found out I was pregnant by telling me I'd probably have to have a fawcep delivery and I wouldn't be allowed to have the baby at the nearest hospital because I could end up in emergency surgery. Since then, they've acted like I'm having a normal pregnancy. I wouldn't mind that if they'd told me I was having a normal pregnancy but they didn't. It's all very confusing.
Like I said I had it with baby number 2 & it nearly killed both me & him. He was born 4 wks early weighing 1800 grams delivered by emergency c-section. They were trying to enduce him & he didn't want to come out, then all of a sudden he did & then again he stopped half way down the birth canal. Well did they panic? My BP was 210 over 185 & they said I was very close to stroking. I didn't see him for 3 days cause I was still to ill. Because of what happened I didn't bond with him properly & the doc said a couple of years back I was probably suffering with PND. I wouldn't want that happening to anyone else.
It just makes me so mad that you are going thru this. Tell me where they are so I can come & sort them out

I gave birth 7 months ago ended up in hospital at 35 weeks with pre eclampsia until babs came at 40 weeks by emergency c section.
EVERYTIME I had a check my urine & blood pressure was checked I had to have a morning sample with me at each check. It was at 35 week check it was so high I was hospitalised & it never went down until babs came.
Sounds weird to me

I think the problem is due to the fact that the maternity services here are all over the place because they closed the service at our local hospital because it wasn't too far to go to the nearest large town. But now they've turned that one into a midwife only unit. This means that I have to see a midwife team at my local surgery, physion at the local hospital, consultancy/tests at the hospital in Huddersfield and have the baby at Calderdale hospital with a different team altogether. There is no continuity so nobody knows what to do with me. I think a lot of it is down to NHS targets etc, everyone feels that it would be better if I was someone else's responsibilty so I'm just dropping through the system.
