Watching channel 4, and I could cry, religion seems to be the big divide with decent people.

Tribal bollox.
Tribal bollox.
I agree, if people just forgot "Labels" and concentrated on the "Good" that all people have in them, things might get easier.
But inspired business plan.
Tribal bollox.
I was thinking along those lines Velvet
But inspired business plan.
Why is it that right minded people are still buying into the "Businesses"?
Yeah, everyone to their own but religion does nothing for me

Well a lot are doing it for good intentions.
Depends whether you believe or not though I suppose.
religion causes more wars than anything
*TODAYS OBVIOUS STATEMENT BOUGHT TO YOU LIVE FROM A COMFORTABLE ARMCHAIR*
well its a load of old crap
argueing about who's God is better
i sometimes wonder about religion
i mean the church is up in arms about gay marriage
does that mean the clergy dont mind abusing/raping the kids
but they draw the line at marrying them?
Humans just can't cope with religion and its demands
To me Religion is often used as an excuse for "Bad" behaviour, and has completely lost it's original meaning.

you said it syd
I often wonder what the world would be like if "Religion" never existed.
I think the Wars/conflicts would have been fought with the "Truth" as an excuse/reason....the truth being "Power" not "Faith"

oil
Don't think Ireland had an oil issue tho pirate, don't think it was really a religious issue either.
What do you see it to be Syd? I don't know, I'm interested in your thoughts though
Religion is OK if it is practiced by each individual for themselves. When it becomes a "calling" for those of that religion, for whatever reason, then masses get involved and that is when trouble can start. It should be a personal thing and not an excuse to get involved in the masses.
Power, resentment, money.
I have my own faith.
No institution required.

That's what I said up there^^^ (I think) I've got no problem with anyone wanting to believe, just don't foist your beliefs on to me

I agree, and the less powerful are called to fight for the more powerful (Under the guise of religious beliefs)

I'm with you on the power and resentment thing Syd, but where would the money come into it?

Difficult to say what their original meanings were. The Abrahamic religions seem to be cobbled together to control and manipulate the tribal societies where they first flourished. The Bible was cobbled together by the Romans, who wanted a unifying religion for their economic, social and political ends. Islam is a reaction against Christianity etc... I don't think organised religion has ever had entirely selfless ends.

Exactly- it is is often the leaders of state that call on the masses to take up arms and fight for the cause????? the cause is a persons own belief of their religion but they often have to follow the masses.

Most regions have many meanings according to those who are interpreting them. The interpretation is best suited the the countries needs.

I'm with you on the power and resentment thing Syd, but where would the money come into it?
Money/power is as one I think sprout, and religion is often used to instigate passion and fear to gather people to fight the cause.
Yeah, you're right
To me religion was 'introduced' as a way of crowd management for heathens.
Kinda put the fear of God into them to control them
I can't remember the exact quote, but it's something like 'Many an evil deed has been done in the name of religion.'
I concur with that.
I'm not religious myself, though I was baptised into the Protestant faith.

I agree that's how it started, but we are in 2012, how do you see it ending?
What this planet needs is a group similar to the UN but for religious groups to get together and hammer out the laws once and for all. UR--- United Religion Just a thought on my part.

Odd question - is it gonna end?
I never see it ending
Its become a reason for life - a meaning - a crux in an ever selfish society

And a pretty good thought too Tori (Wonder how long the hammering out would take tho

It will never end. The world lives for oil, as time goes on those countries will be targeted by foreign powers. Religion plays a part against Israel- being so-called Zionists, they are regarded as enemies of a lot of middle eastern countries. The Israelis have balls though, standing up to those who oppose them after suffering those atrocities during WW2. Good luck to them and watch out those who wish to see them wiped off the planet. ( Iran in particular). They have risen from the depths and survived.

How long will it take for some of those up there in prominent positions to think of this option? Doubt they ever will. Wish they would watch this to get a few hints and tips.

I think it will end, I know I will never see it end, but until it does there will always be, separation and disharmony.

It will end either as man made or from out of the skies. God help or future generations.
I'm interested reading this thread about how many people are/are not religious on here, so i've started a poll hope you dont mind Syd

I don't think it's confined to just that though
