Reggae seemed to go a bit downhill in the eighties. 

For me, I think Lee Perry/The Upsetter is a genius of reggae and dub.  UB40 after 1982 were pretty rubbish but Present Arms and Signing Off were albums that stand up against the best in reggae and dub.

Before that and going into the skinhead/reggae/Ska/Rocksteady eras I'd go for Toots and Maytals as my personal favourites.

I prefer the 90s when dub reggae heavily influenced techno, electronic and trip hop artists.
