Was the custard pink or yellow ? or brown?

I only ever ate the chips and quiche at school dinners - I didn't trust the look of the puddings - they all looked like something you'd see in Star Trek

Two hots are too hot and you don't get the flavour cos you burn your mouth

I loved school dinners....especially the puddings.  Wish I had the recipes.

I wasn't suggesting you put them into a flippin volcano before serving

Has to be hot custard left to cool so a nice thick skin forms...that's the best bit

I agree - thick custard with a skin is the way forward,

I loved the Chocalate cornflake cake.

I used to love school puddings, especially the powdered custard, and tapioca.   And Gypsy Tart, and semolina, and that lovely chocolatey marble cake.

I'm so pleased that I have had the opportunity to stop a thread. Pastry tart filled with cornflake encrusted treacle. You'd love to better that. You won't! You can't!

Pink blancmange

It was a sort of gooey sickly brown flan made with condensed milk and brown sugar.  It was the sort of thing that was so revolting that it was really delicious.  But I don't suppose it was exactly healthy!

i think  its a story i kind of shut off  from ..........  i dont think they should make light of it ..... oor boys have seen it they are guessing    .. i know they try to be realistic  ..... but 

we gotta be all healthy on school dinners and puds now........nutritional value and calorific value of each dish......gone are the days of pink custard ........

Our school did the most amazing caramel shortcake i have never tasted any as good since. and my take on the pudding is hot cake and hot custard

I went to boarding school and we had lovely food. There were 3 dormatories and each had a kitchen and a couple of nuns (sisters) doing the cooking. All we had to do was our prep for school the next day. Bad show really, it doesn't give you a chance in the real world.

I remember getting a cake at school and I have never tasted anything like it since. It was a sponge cake and had an almondy/treacle taste with pink icing and pink custard. It was absolutely bloody boooootiful and have never had anything like it since. Did anyone else get this or did my school just try and poison us?
