Crash happened about 2pm. Apparently he was thrown from the plane and died at the scene.

Not pretty
very sad.......i was heading out of b'mth on the spur road as they were going back to the airport...awful to think a few minutes later the pilot was dead....
it's meant to be the last day of the airshow tomorrow...but i doubt it'll be on given today's tragic events
Saw this earlier...he's only 33 apparantly...so very sad....my thoughts are with his family, friends and collegues x
So sad..
My sister was about to set off to the show when it happened. They didn't go.
They're planning to go tomorrow if it's still going ahead.
just having a read about it on the net.........seems like he sacrificed himself to save others
he crashed near throop which is a residential area....but he got the plane into a field away from the houses and tried to get it into a river away from other people
It's so sad ... yes, I think you're right Spongee ... he tried to clear residential areas and guide the plane into a field ... seems he then ran out of time to eject safely
It's so tragic ... read on BBC that he was just 33 and that it's been 33 years since there was a fatality with the Red Arrows.
there's also a massive shopping complex near there too shar called castlepoint....it's really built up round that area with the roads....shops and houses...
the fact he managed to get the plane out of everyones way speaks volumes about the man..

He was Red 4 ... an exceptional, gifted pilot ... proved this all the more by ensuring that a crippled plane didn't crash where it would cause civilian casualties. I agree spongee ... speaks volumes ... if you want to know what a hero looks like, look no further
Really tragic, but, Go the Red Arrows..xxxxxxx (and no, I do not mean that flippantly)

I liked the Leuchars Air Show
gutted
absolutely love the red arrows, having been dragged around every air show in the country by my dad as a child, they were always the highlight of the day for me
he fought in Afghanistan (whether you believe in us being there or not) and dies doing an "fun" air show
he lost his own life to save others ... now that IS a hero
Really really sad RIP Red 4
