The mechanisms of the riots were already understood (and the riots predicted) a few weeks, some say years, beforehand.
Perhaps the subsequent opportunism came as a shock!
Oddly enough on my lerkal forum we're having a debate as to why there are no riots here. They think that with London having all the jobs, cash, and nice things in nice shops, that they would be happy with their lot.
Factors range from the lousy weather, the availability of heroin and methadone, lack of technology, and the fact that not many people knew this Duggan chap.
