Day 3: Ratings: Power Trip’s Second Launch Plummits

The second Launch night of Big Brother 2014 shed around half a million viewers in one night, with only an average of 1.6 million viewers.

It comes as a disappointing blow for the reality show which faired 500,000 viewers down on last year’s Big Brother Secrets and Lies second live launch show, which lost just 20,000 viewers from it’s first show.

Last night viewers were treated to the continue of Housemate Pauline’s Power Trip after she chose Helen to recieve a free pass to the final of the series.

Wow, that's a huge drop after night one. Not surprised with the unappealing [and similar] hms. The second batch were slightly better thank goodness.

Agree about the twists Erin, they're pointless and just spoil it.

After catching up with last night's show, I must admit my enthusiasm has waned.

I am the same, last night was ridiculous.

It's very obvious that five are aiming for the younger more Towie audience,in addition their official app has disinfranchised lots of fans ...and I am one of them .

Shit housemates.
Shit twist.
Shit way of putting them in.

It's hardly surprising really.

I think it's time channel 4 got it back and went back to the basics of what made BB good in the first place.
• 12 housemates, all put in without the big live audience, entrance interview etc.
• Put them in, lock the doors and film them. Let them get on with it without all the manipulation, boring twists etc.
• 1 weekly shopping task that lasts over the course of a couple of days.
• Weekly shopping list and they can order as much alcohol as they want and drink it when they want as long as it's within their shopping budget obviously.
• 1 eviction per week.
• 24hr LIVE stream available.

The fake eviction/secret house twists were good when they started (remember michelle and emma?) but now they are just predictable and boring.

Just seen on Twitter Ryan Thomas that plays Jason Grimshaw on Corrie is friends with Ash that went in last night, how is this BB when nearly all of them seem to be  already in the media/Tv etc this is why people are turning off as it's meant to be about ordinary people trying to win a game

This does not surprise me as the figures have been on a general downward trend for years.

I have in past years posted week by week totals, so I can see myself how the numbers are struggling. I'm surprised it's taken this long TBH.

Like many of you I feel like I am watching (almost) z-listers, people bubbling under the 'Z' but soon to be on the list.

I want to see real ordinary people who come from real ordinary lives and are not looking to boost or make a career out of BB.

Yes - well said

I'm not surprised!
Have the producers not listened to a word the fans have said?
We don't want to watch a bunch of 20 something's with the same profession & looks, getting drunk & bitching or getting off with each other.
We want a diverse range of individuals in there, and it would have been great to have absolutely no models or media trained people!

In a word, NO.

It's funny how for advertising purposes programmes and especially supermarkets like to announce through adverts that they have "listened to what our customers have said"...

Of course I never believe adverts, ever.

Last night saw the figures fall again as just 950,000 watched the first full highlights of the series.

It was despite the show being scheduled straight after the BGT final, which had a peak audience of more than 12 million viewers watching.

And even though the show had originally faced the football, the match was suspended due to a thunderstorm.

The show was down some 300,000 viewers on last year’s equivalent first Saturday nights highlights, all despite a series of twists as part of this year’s Power Trip theme.

The show continues nightly on Channel 5 and will air another special live show on Monday night from 10PM where another twist will be revealed.

A spokesman for Channel 5 said today: “We are pleased with the very strong performance of the show across the two launch nights.”

needs sacked if he is pleased with those figures!!

Hopefully they'll learn from it Erin?

It a big wake up call... wonder could the ratings could go even lower?

It really rankles with me that there's a HM there until the end [especially a nasty one] and one permanently up for eviction. There's no suspense there.

The only reason I would watch is so that Emma Willis keeps her job, I love her presenting it

I am not giving up my summer for this rubbish .I am watching until Monday night to see if this nonsense regarding 'power' and app user only having the means of vote continues.

Can you only vote via the app? What about those who don't have ipads or iphones? Channel 5 really haven't thought this through.

As far as I know anything to do with the 'power' is via the app.

It was app only vote that gave Pauline the power.

Phone vote is there but for eviction purposes.

Is there still a 'three strikes and you're out' rule on warnings? *crosses everything*

950,000 - That is like no one in the UK watching the programme other than the City of Birmingham (and not all of them either).
