So sad
I have lost count of how many famous names we have lost so far this year - seems a lot though
Sad news
The justifiably famous scene from Lawrence of Arabia - Omar Sharif's first scene - (needs to be watched full screen)
awwww there aren't many 'greats' left now
Funnily enough an ad on the telly yesterday about a Joanna Lumley programme coming up reminded me of the film he made with Julie Christie ... was the snow in Russia bit of the ad, and I couldn't for the life of me recall its name .. Thanks to Mrs H's OP I now know tis Dr Shivago
He used to be a professional backgammon player as well. .made a ton of money at that I think.

It's odd, that's one of those iconic films I've never seen. I'm going to have to try and see it somehow

It's best seen on a large screen, ideally at a cinema if it gets a re-release.
Olly, I think it was bridge.
Was it. .where did I get backgammon from? must be the heat mashing my brain up.. I know someone played backgammon professionally. . thought it was him. .or maybe I am making it up and have created a false memory

He did play backgammon as well but he was a world class bridge player.

Yes it does seem a lot this year.
The Oscars will need to be a fair bit longer this year.

My favourite (Clint Eastwood) is not getting any younger. I'd like to think he has plenty more years yet.
RIP Omar Sharif. He gave some spellbinding performances.
Some of the 'greats' still alive who are over 90 include:
Olivia de Havilland (who had her 99th birthday a few days ago)
Kirk Douglas (98)
Maureen O'Hara (94)
Doris Day (93)
Rhonda Fleming (91)
Eva Marie Saint (91)

He was one of the top 50 bridge players in the world at one point, but yes: I associated him more with backgammon too. I think it's because I got a library book either written or introduced by him when I was learning backgammon as a teenager.
(In contrast, I've never played bridge... )
aww RIP,so many old classic actors etc going now.. Blimey Peter o'Tool was bloody gawjusss then! I know he was a hell raiser etc..rip to him too.
Omar Sharif was one dapper dude: pictured with American model Suzy Parker in Vogue magazine, 1961.
