Hi Lori - For some reason I don't seem to be able to quote all of a sudden (it happened about 3 days ago). There are no " marks when I look at the submit reply box. However, I have just noticed that I can quote in a private message Also, I changed to IE 9 about a week ago and there is a message at the top of my screen telling me to change to a more modern browser, i.e. IE 8

Well, THAT'S weird!
I'll check it out on a test machine on Monday, and follow up with you.
Thanks Lori
I saw scatterby's post and although I use Firefox I thought I would check this out in IE 8 (I use Windows XP so IE 9 isn't an option).
Firstly I get the same message about changing to another browser - and besides Firefox etc it does say Internet Explorer 8 which is what I was using and I know that this forum no longer supports IE 8 - I assume it should be saying IE 9.
Secondly I took a snapshot - attached - and it shows that the quoting icons which should be visible on scatterby's second post are not there - just the reporting and permalink icons. You will also see that our avatars are positioned above the post rather than to the left, and I suspect that this repositioning may be connected with why the quoting icons are missing. There is also an error message appearing right at the bottom left which presumably means that the page hasn't properly been displayed.
I hope this helps, though it doesn't explain why scatterby is having the same problem and is using IE 9.

Ooo that's interesting El Loro It's all very strange!
OK, I am posting from a machine that has Vista and IE9, and I 1)didn't get a message to update browsers and 2)can see the quoting icons. Scatts, can you please check to make SURE that you are using IE9? Check the About Internet Explorer, under the little gear icon, upper righthand corner of the browser.
Next up....IE8!
Weird. Now I'm posting from IE 8 (XP), and I'm not getting the error message, and I can still see the quote icons.
I think you are right about the issue being that the page isn't loading completely, El Loro. I just don't understand why the "update your browser" message is happening for either of you. My version of 8 is 8.0.6001.18702. What's yours?

The same (and my XP is with service pack 3).
If you look at my snapshot above, if you look at the bottom part of the first post (yours) which is in the alternate posting colour you can see at the left a short sandy bar. I have checked and this appears on any alternate posting.
Well, you can see it on the other posts, too. Very odd. BTW, I also had the service pack 3, so we have the same OS, it looks like.
I'll bring it up, and we'll see what we can see. I'd still love to hear from Scatts, though, about her IE9....
It's wonderful - whatever you've done it's sorted it I was posting away telling people I couldn't quote, then suddenly noticed that the quote marks were back - you are amazing
I may be amazing, but I didn't do a thing.

Aaahh - don't be so modest
Although I don't use IE8, I've just checked and there are still no quote icons.

Oh no Loro
I haven't forgotten about this, El Loro....the issue is that we can't seem to reproduce the issue.
But, we'll keep talking about it.
Lori, it's not important for me as I use Firefox, but there may be some users who do use IE8 and have this problem.
Understood. Just wanted you to know it's still on my radar.
El Loro:
Can you please check and see if this is still an issue for you since today's update?
Lori, I've checked in IE8 and there are still no quote icons. I see that the warning message at the top has been amended to IE8/9.
OK. It was worth a try, to see if it had auto-magically corrected itself.
Lori, Jonmark has come up with the answer to the quoting icons problem I must have set the compatability mode on for this forum when it was first created and had forgotten about it. Once I turned it off, the quote icons came back and also the avatar pictures returned to being to the left of the posting text rather than on top. And the updating message to IE8/9 no longer appears.
(But I'll still stick with Firefox )
Oh, yay!!
*tries hard to file that memory in an easily-accessible place for the next person that has this problem*
Thanks for letting me know, El Loro. Maybe you can help me remember.
Lori, I've made a thread about this on the BB forum so hopefully everyone with the problem will see it.
I'll replicate this in the Tips forum in case it's ever needed in future.
Oh, excellent idea. Thanks!
Right everything has been fine for a few weeks - now all of a sudden tonight - whilst I was already signed in - it's started again! I can't quote and the forum has become sort of elongated aswell! Any ideas? Thanks.

I've just gone into IE 8 to see if I have the same problems and I don't. As you can see I am able to quote as normal.
scatts, is it possible that the compatibility mode got turned on by mistake (e.g. some random set of keystrokes you did)?
It is quite possible Lori I will try and investigate...
I'm so embarrassed - that's what it was Is there any way of deleting my stupidness?
You know what?
It's not stupidness, it happens!
If we leave these posts, the same thing may happen to someone else, and this will give them a troubleshooting tip.
