Just out of curiosty, when you make cheese on toast do you grill both sides of the bread, or only the side that isn't getting the toast, me at the moment I'm a one side kind of bloke but I may start doing both sides next time for more crunch.

LOL No, ya numpty! I do them in my electric thingy
I fancy cheese on toast and dandelion and burdock in a tall glass.
I hope no -one puts up a huge chocolate cake thread
I toast the bread in the toaster ,then put raw onion slices on it then some good strong grated cheddar and bung it under the grill....well I did, my grill blew up on Saturday! I 'll have to get a new element for it..pain in the arse.
I think both sides from now on, and what's the best cheese, if I have the cash then it's strong Cathedral, but at the mo just cheap Tesco mild cheddar, never as good, but I have to put Worcester sauce on as well, and finely grated onion with loads of ground black pepper. Sweet chilli sauce goes down a treat as well.
I rub white bread on my feet and toast it. Is that not how you do it?
Oh and I gave those toastie bags you bung in the toaster a go,they are still shite. The bread burns on the outside and the middle ain't melted enough.

mAMMY!

I just put the grated cheese on the untoasted bread and bung it in but apparently that's wrong as my boyfriend was bewildered when I made him cheese on toast last night (he should have been thankful he got anything).
As for the type of cheese.....just run of the mill medium or mild cheddar for me or a nice bit of mexicana when I remember to buy it.
Oh and the George Foreman (Forman?) does lovely toasties but I don't like hard cheese done in those.
ive answered this before im sure
IMO ..........you can only make great cheese on toast under a grill ..........................(as someone above said) fully toast one side - par toast the other side - then pile on the grated cheese - mixed with either a pinch of mustard or a dash of Worcester sauce.
While bread is toasting turn on grill to warm up and grete strong White cheddar.
Butter toast, place a good handful of cheese onto buttered side.
A couple of splashes of Worcester sauce onto and a good helping of ground black pepper.
Place under grill till cheese has melted.
Gosh I am so hungry now.
Toast one side. Then turn over, layer cheese all over uncooked side. Splash with Worcester sauce and grill until brown. Eat and repeat
Are you crazy!?!? I don't even attempt Cheese on Toast...far too advanced for me!!

Toast me sliced Bloomer on one side, flip it, spread with Dijon Mustard, cover with sliced mature cheddar, place back under grill, when melting starts, remove, spread with knife add sliced tomato, replace under grill until golden and bubbly.....yum.....
I'm just off to have some cheese on toast, any objections?

But you have all the answers here Rawky
I toasted both sides, put a tiny bit of butter on the topping side, brushed with Colemans mustard, then put slices of mild cheddar, topped with finely sliced spring onions, then liberal amounts of worcestar sauce, and dried chilli flakes and cayenne, and cracked black pepper, YUMMY!
After all I taught you.....you just had to go and do it your way anyway

No need for the butter IMO ............but then I'm always looking for a way to cut calories. Cheese has enough fat (especially when melted) really no need for the butter. Other than that - it sounds delish!
It was only a very small amount of butter honest.

George is great for toastie making. Bacon, brie and tomato
