I'm making fresh meatballs with pasta sauce tonight, would it be OK not to put chopped onions in with the meatballs, coz I'm already gonna have onion in the sauce I'm making, I've checked google and different methods say different stuff, some say put it in, some say don't, I love onion, but I'm worried if I add chopped onion into the meat it will still be raw.

I think it would be perfectly acceptable to omit onions from the recipe. Enjoy!

I find the sauces don't have much onion in them Poolie...try grating your red onion finely..it makes all the difference imo!...
you could always soften the onion first before putting them in the meatball mix. .

Yeah, that's what I do: fry onion gently in oil for about five minutes, leave to cool down and then mix in with the meat and other ingredients.

I'm a bit confused how you say you might have raw onion in the meat balls.
If you are cooking the meatballs then the onion will be cooked as well.
It's like having Burgers with onion already in, they just cook as normal, you don't end up with raw onion, it all cooks together.

I've never really cooked meatballs from fresh before, I just assumed any onion bits in the middle of the meat would not cook properly as the heat would not pebetrate through enough, a burger is thinner than a meat ball so you would expect it to cook quicker and more thoroughly. God how boring do I sound, let's hope this meal is worth it.

Poolie, onion cooks a lot quicker than meat, so unless you had planned having semi-raw meatballs, then you'd have no worries about the onion being thoroughily cooked.

I'd fry the meat balls off before I put them into the sauce .... that way you can be sure they will be fully cooked I'd always add onion to the meat balls ... it adds to the flavour

I make the BEST meatballs in the world
1....Get a couple of slices of bread...cut off their crusts....soak them in a bit of milk
2....Fry a bit of onion in a pan in a bit of oil and a bit of red wine if you have it spare
3....Add the mincemeat to the soaked milky bread add salt and pepper
4....Pour in the fried onion
5....mix it all together with your clean hands
6....make a load of little meatballs...the smaller they are the less time they'll take to cook
7....Brown the meatballs in the pan you've used for the onion
8....Make a pint of instant gravy...heat your oven at 180 degrees
9....Put the browned meatballs into an oven proof dish and pour over the gravy
10...Cook in the oven for 30 mins
It sounds like a lot of work, but it's not and it's sooooo worth it, they're the nicest balls you'll put in your mouth
