I don't get why Shirley Williams gets the Question Time gig so often.  Since 1979 she's not been in government and therefore hasn't been responsible for any cabinet decisions or for defending decisions of a governing party.  From 1981 - 2010 she's been in a party that hasn't been in government nor likely to form a government.

OK, so the Lib Dems are in the government now and their cabinet ministers are mostly unpopular.  I think the Lib Dems are on the whole scared to put up current Lib Dem cabinet minister so put up good old Shirl who's untainted by the sell out to the Tories and is the acceptable face of the left of centre Lib Dem tradition that they've abandoned since joining with the Tories.

The point I'm making is that anyone under 45 will barely remember her even being in a government so for the most part of the last 40 years she's had the privilege of talking the talk without having to walk the walk.
