The first time I came across Phenomenology was in the film Dark Star. A sentient bomb was going to explode, killing the astronauts, but one of the astronauts tries to prevent the bomb exploding by his use of phenomenology.
All will become clear when you watch the clip.

This is slightly o/t, but have you read 'Future Shock' by Alvin Toffler EC? As sci/fi (and I use the word advisedly) goes, it's a cracking read.
