Putin met with a group of volunteers in the Olympic mountain venue at Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi on Friday to wish them success at the games. During a question-and-answer session, a volunteer asked him about Russia’s attitudes toward gays, a subject that has provoked worldwide controversy, and Putin offered what was apparently meant to be a reassuring answer for visitors to the Olympics.
“One can feel calm and at ease,” he said. “Just leave kids alone, please.”

Reading the story i felt so sorry for anyone who is living in Russia and gay 
No one talks or teaches about it so just imagine and a young person feeling so different and having NOTHING to relate to or worse being told it's wrong
It's just so sad.

I hadn't heard this story, and my immediate reaction was that I'd misread Garage Joe's post, but there it is. 
(Apparently the guy used to be in the Conservatives, but left over the same-sex marriage issue.)
I read that to, but didn't someone a while ago blame global warming on gays? It just rings a bell because I can remember some comedian making comment that if that was the case why wasn't Brighton already under water, or something like that.

Just seen that on BBC News 24.
The move came as Mr Farage told the Sun on Sunday that "about five" of the 13 MEPs elected for UKIP in 2009 would not stand again.
"Some have been pushed and some have jumped," he explained.
So UKIP itself feel that nearly 40% of the MEPs already elected and representing it shoudn't do so anymore? Blimey...

There's a Dispatches documentary on tonight about the violence in Russia against the gay community. 10pm channel 4.
OMG just watched Dispatches and I'm lost for words (for a change). I do hope the athletes at the Olympics make some sort of stand or gesture. The shocking, backward and bigoted behaviour and attitudes towards gay people needs high lighting ........they need shaming.
