There have been problems today on Twitter which started after 8.00am this morning. This has resulted in some people not being able to access Twitter at times and just getting an error page:

There were also issues with Twitter's application program interface (API), which allows websites and apps to connect to Twitter, principal analyst Sheridan Nye told the BBC.

That presumably explains why the twitter feed this morning didn't start until 9.50am with the tweet "Aaaand we're back. The housemates are (almost) up. Danniella and Christopher are enjoying a cup of tea in the garden"

Baz, my guess is that Facebook has tracked your posting a smilie from that site so thinks you might want to add it to Facebook as well. It might be that you had your Facebook account open at the same time. It's a bit like doing a Google search or an Amazon search, and then you find that other sites you go on which now have adverts showing the item that you've searched for.
