on certain occasions, our parliament and monachy have a little dress up, do you like the history and gestures it shows, or do you find it a total waste of time?

I love it. I am very patriotic and I love the Royals, although I know not everyone does.
Interesting you should as Jen as I was watching the John Sargeant - On The Tourist Trail last night....we do have alot of un-necessary pomp and ceremony, but after watching that, I realised that tourists love it!!!
Well, I think it would look wrong if she turned up in a Mondeo wearing a shell suit.
Men in wigs and tights
I think it's a load of old carp, sorry. And I hate the royal family. That MP was hardly in a position to talk (considering what they've all been up to with their expenses) but he was right - they ARE parasites.

lol Teddy, I personally love it, but wanted to see what others thought
I totally understand the revenue it brings in from the tourists...but personally I think it's a loada hogwash!!
I do like having an unelected head of state and I think it would be wrong to change the monarchy too much under it's present head but I'm not sure I want things carrying on into the next generation in its present form. She's been at it 50-odd years and done a pretty good job. I'd hold of with madame guillotine until she's had her turn.
Pointless, as are the Royals.
I don't wish to appear disrespectful towards your Royal family but I would be very angry if my hard earned tax money was gowing towards hefty security bills for the protection of Beatrice and Eugenie. Why is that necessary
I'm not a Royalist at all but I think pomp and ceremony is part of our unique identity. It's all a bit eccentric which I think does reflect us as a nation.

I'm off to London next week to celebrate our birthdays and I'm heading off to Kengsington Palace and Kew gardens for a wee tour. I have a fasination for the Royal romances through the years and I do believe your Royal family definately generate revenue for the country. However, (just my opinion) I think its just a tad galling when folk in this economy see money being used for security for minor royals.
Love it, very patriotic and love all the pomp and ceremony. Big supporter of the Queen as well, she does a fantastic job for a woman of her age, not so keen on some of the younger royals though and can't stand Prince Edward - he's a waste of space.
I do love the queen - she reminds me of my mum. I've nothing against a bit of dressing up and parading round in fancy dress, though I'm not so keen on military parades.
I think the French had the right idea...
I love nice tights and a wig, its just the pomp and ceromony that gets on my tits

John Sergeant on the Tourist Trail trying to Scottify some yanks last night was hilarious!
Hell no, Fairfax
I couldn't see myself curtseying, either. It never ceases to amaze and disappoint me, how many people willingly carry on toadying to that chinless load of leeches, who lord it over us for no better reason than a happy accident of birth.

I think the monarchy should disappear after Her Maj has passed over. I think the cost of them far outweighs the money they bring in through tourism.

I have to say that I love history and all our traditions..... but not sure about the cost nowadays.
I love the history and traditions of this country too. It is such a shame that alot of kids nowadays are not taught about it and have no idea of the history of this country.
The thing is tourists don't come here expecting to actually see the Royals, just the parapheralia and gubbins that goes with it. The most visited Royal Palace is at Versailles, so maybe the French had the right idea, if we chop their heads off it might be a boost to the economy.

Monarchy are only a part of our heritage.
I think it is important to preserve history. Many aspects have been adapted for the modern age, but old traditions are important too.
It would be sad if they were lost and gone forever.
I like the dressing up for certain special occasions and the pomp and ceremony.
I would rather wigs and tights than jeans worn underneath the buttocks or a visible thong straining over a tattooed bottom.
