Imagine this.
You are locked in a room for a week with a group of people. Say a dozen people.
> One room has cheery people. They smile all the time, the tell jokes non-stop, they jolly you along when you are wilting, they insist that everything is fine and life is one long journey of happiness. They are determined that you will share their joy.
> The other room is the gloomy room. The people in here do not smile, they look serious, often stern, they moan and are pessimistic. They take life seriously, and dislike frivolity. Here one can complain and whinge in all seriousness because everyone else will be doing the same. They analyse things.
Cheery room will include those people who insist you wear a paper hat at Christmas and "cheer up and sing along" even though you wish to cry about sad memories in your life. Also those people who say "cheer up; it may never happen." Those people who claim to be "always up for a laugh", and those people who constantly ask you "what's wrong." You won't be allowed to listen to nostaligic or sentimental music - they will insist on "Knees Up Mother Brown."
Gloomy room will be unsmiling. It will include the dog-training woman with the harsh voice who barks words of command. It may even include Gillian McKeith. There will be people who say sternly "why are you looking so pleased with yourself?" People will moan. You want to listen to dance music, but they will make you listen to the "Moonlight Sonata."
So do you spend your week in the Cheery Room or the Gloomy Room?
