Perhaps it all happened too fast.

I'd imagine that there's hysteria and panic if you know you're going down, I probably wouldn't think to turn my phone on either in those circumstances.....

...so sad to think that people were probably returning from holiday or going on holiday, ot maybe to see family...just another day at work for the crew Shake Head I feel sad for the relatives sat a Charles de Gaulle waiting and then hearing the News....makes me want to weep! Nod

Oh DD isn`t this awful? Mazzy`s BBC post doesn`t look good. Somehow it gives me that feeling I had when Lockerbie happened..nothing at all to do with that but the same gut wrenching feeling. Frowner

Same here Scotty, I also feel that gut wrenching feeling and sadness...IF the worst has happened (which is looking more & more like it has), what a tragic waste of lives....Shake Head

Awful awful DD, my heart is sore for them. So many people may be affected forever. Frowner

Lets pray that the worsed has not happened...please. Hug

I asked this earlier but I didn't see a reply. Wouldn't the plane have had some kind of tracker, like GPS so that a satelite could trace its path. Surely it was following a certain path through the sky, surely they would have had to have fairly regular contact with the ground. You can't just let a plane fly willy nilly with no regards for its whereabouts. If it dropped of radar at a certain point would it not be around this point.

When someone goes missing they can trace where they went through mobile phone signals, even if that signal is not there anymore they can find where it was last.

They Are Looking Around Where It Was Last on Radar, However As It Was Above the Sea, In A Storm, It's Highly Unlikely To Still Be Around That Area.

Furthermore If The Plane Broke Up In Mid Flight Then The Radar Single Could Be Lost At That Point But The Plane May Still Be 'Flying' And, At 500mph+, Would Travel Quite Far From When It Broke up.

Unimagineable what those poor folk must have been thinking and feeling during those awful final moments. Poors souls.

I don't understand why it may be difficult to find when all planes on certain routes follow the same path.

Because It Was Lost In The Middle Of The Atlantic, And Even Then No One Knows If It Kept Flying, If It Stayed On Course, If It Turned Back On Itself, etc.

All That Is Known Is That It's Last Known Location Was Between Brazil And Africa, As You Can Imagine That Is A huge Area To Search, It's Likely Wreckage May Never Be Found

It seemed to be very sudden because the message was sent automatically and the pilots didn't have time to send a mayday message.

I guess it must be for all the families that are waiting at the airport for news...gawd knows what they must be going through Frowner

I can't imagine! Shake Head
Everly brother's song 'Tell Laura I love her' springs to mind. Crying

Unfotunately that made me smile, as I have a niece called Laura, and I used to sing it to her all the time, now she's 27 and she goes mental when I mention it or start humming the tune Big Grin

Was it Ricky Valance that did that? I think it was.... but yeah, the whole thing is totally tragic, it sort of puts my shitty mornng totally into perspective Frowner

You're right Gel, it was Ricky Valance. Don't know how I got that wrong, sorry. Confused

It's so sad. Crying

Maybe you were thinking of Ebony Eyes? That was by Everly Brothers, and was about an overdue flight.

Tragic news. I hope they find something soon, as it must be hell for the families and friends waiting for some news. Though I fear it is too late for the news to be good. Frowner

If it did happen as people are predicting imagine the shocking realisation & feeling of dread, as your plane is hurtling down towards a vast ocean in the dead of night.

I'm praying it was quick too, but also that people had time to hug, hold hands and tell each other "I love you" Frowner

I know hun it's just that a plane crash sounds so much more final that a car crash Frowner I know in reality cars crash almost every minute and plane crashes are usually few and far between but it just seems a whole lot scarier to me.

there is a very good chance that they would not have known anything - especially considering the fact that the authorities think that whatever happened did so very quickly!!
