they have said the electrical fault was minor and not a risk to the flight, but the short COULD have started a fire and of course thats a different story.

Indeed. The information we are getting, is very patchy at the moment Frowner

Everly brother's song 'Tell Laura I love her' springs to mind. Crying

Unfotunately that made me smile, as I have a niece called Laura, and I used to sing it to her all the time, now she's 27 and she goes mental when I mention it or start humming the tune Big Grin

Was it Ricky Valance that did that? I think it was.... but yeah, the whole thing is totally tragic, it sort of puts my shitty mornng totally into perspective Frowner

You're right Gel, it was Ricky Valance. Don't know how I got that wrong, sorry. Confused

Thumbs Up Is that for anxiety? I have never been a nervous flyer, but my friend is. I never realised how awful it was until I flew with her!!!! Nod

Yep, buspirone - 5mg, 1 3x a day - is a tablet you take 5 days before departure and you have to take 4-5 days before you leave your holiday. It doesn't make you drowsy, just stops the nervous tummy - it's not addictive in that dose. Thumbs Up

I echo your feeling....does it matter what nationality the people onboard are???? I don't care who they are or where they're from...I'd just like to hear that they are alive!!! Nod

exactly, my immediate thought after I heard that bit, was, 'what about all the other nationalities on board'? but as I say, I didn't hear the rest of what he said, so I may be taking it a little out of context, no doubt I'll get to hear the full version in due course...

How can they run out of fuel? Frowner

some time ago most airlines reduced the reserve fuel in their aircraft to lower weight and therefore reduce costs, this plane had an additional 2 hours of fuel above what was needed so it could be diverted if required but even if it was still airborne it would have run out by now.

Oh dear..cost cutting may have cost lives. I`m praying for them all. Please let them be safe.

i dont think there has been a single case of that being an issue since they did it after all 2 hours is a hell of a distance extra.

I`m sorry but I don`t understand your reply.

And how would the BBC know. Planes get hit by lightening all the time and do not suffer any consequences.
I just wish these news channels would wait instead of speculating. That are supposed to report the news, not make it up if they do not know.

Maybe this one wasnt ok.
Apparently the lightning strike caused an electrical failure.

I know you are only going by what is reported. But as they have not found the plane then surely everything is pure speculation.

Never thought of that Maz. It did say that when there's no radar coverage that the pilot can keep in contact via radio telephone, but that doesn't seem to have happened either

It does not look good and the area to search will be vast.

Exactly luxor and the Atlantic Ocean is so vast it will be a nigh on impossibility to find where it might have gone down unless, of course, the approximate route can be defined and thereby the search area more easily detected (assuming there is debris of course).

A dreadful tragedy - those poor people.

How can they run out of fuel? Frowner

Because the flight is way overdue now - it was due to land in Paris at 09.10am this morning and it would not have had sufficient fuel to have been able to carry on for much longer without a refuelling stop elsewhere (and that hasn't happened).
HyacinthB
I asked this earlier but I didn't see a reply. Wouldn't the plane have had some kind of tracker, like GPS so that a satelite could trace its path. Surely it was following a certain path through the sky, surely they would have had to have fairly regular contact with the ground. You can't just let a plane fly willy nilly with no regards for its whereabouts. If it dropped of radar at a certain point would it not be around this point.

When someone goes missing they can trace where they went through mobile phone signals, even if that signal is not there anymore they can find where it was last.

I was on a plane from zanzibar to tanzania once (a 20 min flight) and we did a massive u turn 5 mins after take off as apparently they'd forgotten to fill the fuel tanks Eeker
Never been so scared in my life!!

It was a 5 seater titchy thing though, hardly a western airways jumbo...

We had a similar experience in Kenya on a small aircraft - same sort of plane as yours (only a 5 seater with no radar)!

We got caught in a tremendous thunderstorm with thunder, lightning, the works. We were thrown about all over the place and I really thought we were going to die!

I don`t find that "interesting" MM..sheer stupidity by someone on Sky news.
If they knew what was happening would they not have called, grabbed for their phones to call for help or to say last words to loved ones? Of course they would have, if they had the chance, fighting for their lives..how ridiculous..terrible speculation when we don`t know what`s happened. That kind of speculative stuff must be even more heartbreaking for the families. Sometimes I hate news.

Same here Scotty, I also feel that gut wrenching feeling and sadness...IF the worst has happened (which is looking more & more like it has), what a tragic waste of lives....Shake Head
