It does not look good and the area to search will be vast.

actualy thats not entirely true Wink

there is no civilian radar.

(and yes it vanished off milatry radar)

Military or civilian radar can not see over the horizon. So if it was on radar then they will have an idea where to look. If it was beyond 200 miles 250 max then it will not have been on any radar.

well lets just say its been confirmed that it WAS on military radar when it disappeared, i guess it might have been seaborne or coastal if it got most of the way across the atlantic.

there is some island they started searching near, radar could have been there too.

EDIT AFTER TDID'S LINK ABOVE

"The aircraft disappeared about 186 miles (300km) north east of the coastal Brazilian city of Natal and near Fernando de Noronha, he went on."

so it was in coastal range for radar

No One Is Saying They Did, They're Saying By *NOW*, If They Were Still In The Air They Would Have Run Out Of Fuel. I.e. The Plane Has Crashed.

That Being Said It Is More Than Possible To Run Out Of Fuel, Leaks, etc. There Was Even A Case In Canada When An Aircraft Run Out Of Fuel Because The Ground Crew Failed To Convert From Imperial to Metric

some time ago most airlines reduced the reserve fuel in their aircraft to lower weight and therefore reduce costs, this plane had an additional 2 hours of fuel above what was needed so it could be diverted if required but even if it was still airborne it would have run out by now.

I know! Eeker

And we just landed, the pilot wound down his window and yelled out of it and these guys ran over with a great big hose, which had fuel spilling out all over the place.

On the second attempt I just shut my eyes and counted to 60 20 times until we got there!

i dont think there has been a single case of that being an issue since they did it after all 2 hours is a hell of a distance extra.

crikey, just clicked on the beeb site, last update at 12:15

but it says

By now it would be beyond its kerosene reserves so unfortunately we must now envisage the most tragic scenario," he said, quoted by Reuters news agency.

"Nothing on Spanish radar, nothing on Moroccan radar, nothing on French radar - we seriously have to fear the worst."

I was thinking of The Bermuda Triangle personally.Dont planes suffer instrument malfunction there?

Wellllll, earlier on in the morning they were reporting electrical fault, then it was a fuel shortage, and now ... clearly if they can't get a developing news story straight then the US federal government must be involved somewhere. Ninja

If the US governmetn was involved there would have been a preprepared press release somewhere.

Someone earlier said the seats float so hopefully the plane thats gone out to search will find something soon to put the relatives mind at rest if nothing else

I can't imagine! Shake Head
Everly brother's song 'Tell Laura I love her' springs to mind. Crying

Unfotunately that made me smile, as I have a niece called Laura, and I used to sing it to her all the time, now she's 27 and she goes mental when I mention it or start humming the tune Big Grin

Was it Ricky Valance that did that? I think it was.... but yeah, the whole thing is totally tragic, it sort of puts my shitty mornng totally into perspective Frowner

0214 GMT: According to the airline, an automated message was received indicating an "electrical circuit malfunction" on board.

0910 GMT: Aircraft was due to land at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.

See, is that normal that a plane would not be heard of for that long. You get a message that there was a fault and just expect it to turn up in Paris 7 hours later, surely they should have been more frequent contact than that and they should be able to put a more accurate time on when it actually went missing.
