British actor Peter Vaughan, best known for roles in Game of Thrones and Porridge, has died at the age of 93.

The first time I saw him was probably in a 1962 BBC series of Oliver Twist - he played the part of Bill Sikes. Over the years he was in other BBC adaptations of Charles Dickens - Great Expecatations (1967), Bleak House (1985), Our Mutual Friend (1998)
Exceptional as the father of Christopher Ecclestone's character in the BBC series Our Friends in the North (he was nominated as best actor in the BAFTAs for that).

Yes he did Baz. Despite so few appearances in the series I seem to recall first seeing him in Porridge.
Even though he was in only three episodes we always called him Grouty even in GOT.
There aren't many actors who retain their character names apart from Bobbie, Ruth, Harry and Tom. I'm sure you have your own.
