41% wanted Makosi out, and 33% wanted Nadia, leaving just over a quarter of the votes between four others.

It wasn't the most joyous night in the show's history either. One week left, and two former housemates leave to the worst boos since Bastille day. Nadia in tears, refused to appear on Big Mouth, and Makosi walked off it after being subjected to a particularly intimate question. She did return later, however.

Okay, you can say Makosi brought it on herself by going into such discussion areas herself, and had therefore put it all in the public domain but it is all a bit... undignified, isn't it? Big Mouth used to be quite fun many moons ago when Russell Brand presented it. It was on far too often, and he was clearly bored by the whole shenanigans, and although he was crude he was unmalicious, and he let the people speak. Davina just isn't that interested.

I've never been particularly impressed by the argument that BB can't control the crowd. If they want to boo, then they'll boo. So how come the fake eviction, when Charley left to a deafening silence in BB8, worked? Not one single cry as she walked down the stairs.

Even in its heyday Big Brother's Big Mouth was not exactly cerebral television, the stuff Channel 4 wants to get back to, which is the supposed reason it's dropping Big Brother in the first place, and the phone calls from the gormless buffoons because Davina can't think up any interesting questions herself hardly suggests quality television either. Rap music, ludicrous body moves from Davina, who watches the show? I've tried in my time, but it takes so long to get going...

But then it's all par for the course. For some strange reason the whole BB juggernaut has been going progressively downmarket since about series 3, and Davina has been foursquare behind it. From eight million viewers to under two, and they are proud of the fact. Davina told Nadia that Josie left because of her. I think it was a little more complicated than that, but even so, things have come to a pretty pass when a housemate can get evicted because of her opinions about a previous winner.

Are the Josie supporters the only people who vote?

Don't get me wrong. I never liked Nadia even when she won BB5, and didn't appreciate her any more this time around. But watching someone reduced to tears and public humiliation like that is unedifying, to say the least.

And now we've got Vanessa Feltz to entertain us. Davina hyped it up in her usual vacuous fashion, trying to suggest that Victor would find the whole thing embarrassing, which of course he didn't, but nothing can disguise the fact that she is a total, desperate last minute entry, and a lousy one at that. We know Aisleyne refused to do the show, but quite frankly there are dozens of women I'd have rather have seen than that opinionated has-been.

She was on the show for three days - an even shorter lifespan than this year's Laura, and now we've got the prospect of her spending the last week in the house.

Anna, Mel, and Caggy from BB1, Narinda, Helen, and Amma from BB2, any of the four Lisas, any of the other two Vanessas, Noirin, Bea.... I could go on. And we get Vanessa Feltz....

What have we done to deserve this?

It didn't have to be a girl either, for that matter. Rex or Sam or Marcus or Freddie from the last four years would have had a far more polarising effect that someone virtually everybody dislikes. I mean, even Ulrika can't stand her:

"I think she's a nasty piece of work. I haven't read her column, but I heard that she had started bringing my daughter Bo into her attack on me, and at that stage I was ready to punch her bloody lights out".

But that was seven years ago, and I dare say they're the best of pals now. Ulrika seemed overjoyed to see her when she walked in.
