He did well for an ugly bugger.

See, I don't agree with that........he always had a look of such pathos about him.....I always felt like giving him the biggest cuddle

Brilliant actor, and as others have said highly underrated.

I remember him in a play with Thora Hird where he played her son." Lost for words " I think it was called.........He's known for much bigger, and better things , but that piece will always stay in my mind.

I was trying to think of this today, Stoory!  And I agree with your Pathos comment.

There was something about Mr. Postlethwaite - he could sit comfortably in an Alan Bennett style play and then move onto a Hollywood 'biggy' and then back to something like a regular British tv series with ease.  You couldn't pigeonhole him because his range encompassed so much.

As Velvet says, he won't go unnoticed.

Stoory - that was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard he had died.  That was a brilliant play imo.    I loved Thora Hird too.

that play is used by Schools of Occupational Therapists up and down the country within Universities as a tool for explaining the problems of a stroke and how aphasia (the ability to no longer communicate by speech) can restrict the person suffering from it.

both Thora Hird and Pete were brilliant in it

Thought some of you might like to know that ITV 3 are showing "Lost For Words" with Pete Postlethwaite and Thora Hird at 9pm tonight.
I'm just reading the book (by Deric Longden) its hilarious so far but as I have seen this before on the TV, I know it will get sadder.  The TV version had me in tears, thanks for the heads up I will record it.
