My broter got me a 3 one and it was brilliant. Think it cost him about 20 quid and I would top up with 15 quid for 3 gig and it lasted me a couple of weeks (although I didn't download stuff). Not sure how you set it up (he did it for me) but I can take it in and out of the PC now and it's already all there without having to set up again.
And topping up is dead easy, you can do it online or buy a 3 voucher from anywhere (doesn't matter that it's a phone voucher, a 16 digit pin will work for broadband time aswell). Was a Godsend while I was waiting for my new connection to go live.

Oh, if you have a Contract mobile phone, maybe try contacting your provider to see if they can do you a deal....mine is ÂĢ10 a month rather than ÂĢ15 as I have my phone with vodafone....you have 7 days to try and send them back....that is where i went wrong, I still had my normal braodband at the time and didn't think to see how good the signal was at home,...still, it works at the OHs so I can live with it

DiD cheers, I didnt think of that, I might get in touch with my mobile chaps and see what they can offer me
3gb is plenty unless you're downloading loads off stuff....I've hardly used any of mine this month, less than 1gb....I shall DL loads of stuff before the 28th, just to get my moneys worth

The dongle installs itself ikataili, if I can manage it, anyone can...I can use it on other people laptops but have to install it again, as it does if i use a different USB port on my lappy.....they are handy, just make sure the signal is decent before you decide to keep it

You can set you limit so you get a warning when you are reaching your limit...my phone company advised me what to set it to and I have never gone over....they'll probably bill it with you mobile phone bill as well to go out together so at least the payments aren't all going out of the bank at different times..

Hmmm, interesting Zaphod. I have the Vodafone dongle and it says coverage is very good in my area but my signal strength says 'very poor' when i'm plugged in....still, i mostly use my lappy upstairs and the digital tv signal is shite up here so maybe i'll try it downstairs....would that make a difference as i assume that all the digital/ satellite signals wotk in much the same way....the TV is fine downstairs, so maybe my dongle signal will be better too.....???

The frequencies used by mobile phones/dongles are in two bands. One band just above terrestrial TV the other twice as much. Building penetration is generally worse for the higher band originally only occupied by Orange but now full of all the 3G stuff so sometimes your phone working on what is sometimes known as 2G (G = Generation) works on the lower band and gets a better signal than the dongle will see working on the higher band.. My dongles will drop back to 2G if they cannot find a 3G and it is a bit like dropping from Broadband to Dial-Up but still useable for emails. You may find you get better results from the front or back of your house rather than up or down stairs
