Is this that rip off phone/tv package    I refused to pay for it the last time I was in hospital 

£15 is what it costs a hospital patient to watch television.

So are you comparing the personal cost of tele watching between the two or the cost to the state? Me a bit confuzzled.

It doesnt cost the prisoner anything if they dont do courses or education to earn approx £5-7pw, its postal orders sent in by family and friends. But then Prison phones are set at a higher tarif per minute than standard BT rate. A single duvet & pillow costs a prisoner £55. (thats without the bedding) The majority of prisoner comfort is not actually funded by the tax payer, its the families who sends their loved ones money.

Thankfully when my son was poorly the TV and phone package was free in childrens wards.
Hospital car parking is what really winds me up. How can they justify nearly a £5 an hour.

The prison thing is true, they can also 'work' in jail and earn summat like 10 quid a week. And from what I know no matter how much money relatives send in, they still only have access to a limited amount of that per week.

I also haven't had to pay for tv the times I've been in hospital this year, and any phone calls were either made or received on my phones. (And you can get PAYG and phones for pennies these days, although if it's someone elderly I can understand why mobile phones might be difficult to figure out).

i have long complained about the price of bedside TVs , plus if its paid on a 24 hour card, if the TV is off it still charges. I have been told for 2 years now, in the hospital i work in, that its being "reviewed". Phoning out and in, is very expensive too...and as for the parking charges  I dont know much about the prison system but i would guess that the patient is by far the worse off

That can't be legal surely?  Some old souls scrimp and scrape to pay for a license then when they become ill they are being deprived of probably the only pleasure they enjoy. Not right 

I spoke to both my sister in law and my neice who both had recent stays in hospital neither had to pay for the tv, it was left on. Only if they wished to make calls were they asked to top up, The phones were able to take incoming calls at an extra charge to the caller, both were allowed to use laptops and mobile phones. The only complaints they had were lack of decent food, overpriced shops, cafe's and parking for visitors at £3.70 per hour!!!

If it was beside the bed, it was probably because of the credits left from the last patient, that is the thing that annoys me. Not that someone else gets it, its the fact it is not controlled better. a patient should pay for THIER viewing, not others

Last time I was in hospital, I used a laptop and my mobile. If I had to rely on whatever the hospital provides, I would have been bankrupt, my daughter ditched the car and came in by bus because of the horrendous parking charges.

Getting my nurses hat on now......sorry if it annoys some..but i work, as a nurse, to get folk better, i am sorry if some folks laptops and mobiles do not work in some hospitals..how on earth did we live before?  If one is in hospital, it is because one is ill and needs medical attention? i never went thru my training to spend time with people who cant work their mobiles or laptops in hospital

 Yes the patient is by far the worst off financially, thankfully since the introduction of Patientline there are other options for patients and prisoners dont get them options. x
