I'm going to give myself a public pat on the back.

Since 1st of January I have stopped eating any form of confectionery, absolutely nothing, no cakes, chocolate or any chocolate based drinks, no bad stuff in the house, no temptation in the supermarket... nothing!

It's got quite easy now. I have been drawn to tea cakes, but always with a banana and soya spread.

I'm eating either porridge or shredded wheat for breakfast with a yoghurt and I alternate in a two egg on toast or beans on toast for the porridge or shredded wheat to make things less boring.

I am finding having a good breakfast lasts me through till 1pm'ish when I have another good lunch usually supplimented around 3pm with a box of mixed fruit from M&S.

I'm now thinking this 16 week fast is a bit of a breeze and might extend it by another 4 weeks!

If anyone else is on an eating regime and wish to share their success, please post away.

Was watching tv prog where scientists were looking at health and diet.

After years of research they concluded that eating sensibly for 5 days and then minimum maintenace for the following 2 days showed a dramatic effect on lowering cholesterol and stabilising wieght.

Health benefits were conclusive. They don't fully understand why.

I had to go on a low carb, diet when meds I was on caused weight gain. It was a slog  but I felt quite virtuous at the same time !

Thank you.

Yes, I feel somewhat better and a tad more energy. I think that I still eat a bit too much bread and bread like products which I think are mitigating some of the good effects of the confectionary fast. Also now my ankle is getting better engaging in some exercise will further help.

Did you manage to keep to a healthier diet then Roger?

Good stuff EC. Hope your ankle heals up

I did stick to the diet - for two years. Mostly high protein foods like fish, meat poultry, eggs and green veg. Hardly any processed food. It was a healthy version of Atkins really - sometimes you can feel a little fatigued though [k.a. Atkins flu]. Your diet sounds much more balanced - and tasty.

I've stopped the horrible meds so don't have to worry about weight gain any more - but I still eat healthily.

Well done EC. I've been reading the Allen Carr book 'No More Diets' - it all makes perfect sense and sounds really healthy and good for you but ..............I don't think I can do it. It means virtually being a vegetarian and I don't want to do that. I love meat and most seafoody stuff. I don't smoke, I don't drink .......I love making and eating nice food - bit tricky.

Bought the Paul Mc Kenna book ...so far it looks good but I'm not compelled to pick it up (avoidance tactics and all that). Slimming World works well for me but the last half stone is pretty hard to lose.
