They don't have a jury in SA trials and the prosecution have a habit of throwing a lot of evidence at bail hearings, whether or not it will be used in the trial, because it forces defence to show their hand.

A lot of the evidence initially leaked to the press (cricket bat, steroids, position of bullets) has turned out to be false or spurious.

It's hard for me to understand how this could have happened by accident, but then i'm not looking at it from the perspective of someone living in SA. Violence there is horrific. I don't know if we will ever get to the bottom of what truly happened. Pistorius is going to have excellent representation and his family are influential. I just hope he can live with his conscience.

If he has one, that is......

It's so shocking, I bet her family aren't holding out much hope of getting the justice they need

Lawyers for Oscar Pistorius have appealed against bail restrictions imposed after he was charged with murdering his girlfriend.

His representatives argue that the double-amputee athlete is not a flight risk and should have the option of travelling outside South Africa as long as he has official permission.

It comes as a close friend said that the athlete is a "broken man".

If he leaves SA  there will be no chance of him returning to face a trial..I won't be surprised if they win the appeal and he goes AWOL.

I agree.

Also, as mentioned by Kaffy... is it likely he'd murder the poor girl for speaking to her ex? I suspect she found out he was blood doping - and he killed her to silence her. Bet you anything his blood tests come back positive. Or - if they are frozen they will eventually be found positive - once tests improve.

Its poor taste for me to speculate as if it was a murder mystery though. She seemed a lovely girl and the last images of her are so sad.

I dont know about any blood tests, but I heard in the news from those who know him that he was a very jealous man and had a history of not trusting his girlfriends.

Makes you wonder what type of country South Africa really is !!!

Well, yes: I liked to think I knew something about Apartheid South Africa, but I saw the documentary "Searching for Sugar Man" recently (V. Good, BTW), and was shocked at the amount of control that was being exercised on even the white population at the time. Part of the reason Rodriguez's music became so popular was because it was banned (the authorities actually scratched out tracks of the radio station copies of his album to ensure they weren't played!)

As for Zola Budd, though: it's worth noting that she ran for the UK in the 1984 Olympics - the year that The Special A.K.A released "Free Nelson Mandela". It's not like she'd have been able to avoid it...

it's all very odd, I also surprised at all these people talking to the media, they've even been in her bedroom

I just think the whole thing just stinks to high heaven.  When I heard today his legal team were asking for his travel restrictions to be lifted I thought "yeah they'll do it and that's the last he'll be seen in South Africa".

If they do lift them, he'll disappear to a country that has no legal ties with SA, and he'll never go back there again to face what he has done.

AND just to add my bit, I have no doubt in my mind that he knew exactly who he was shooting at.  I know, innocent until proven guilty and all of that, but sorry I just feel that way.

She met up with an ex that day and he said Oscar kept ringing her, I think the phone records will out the truth
