But is that what SA prisons do?

have you seen SA prisons on telly - I've seen American ones that have made me baulk but SA ones are in a different category - especially for white inmates as there aren't very many of them  Not sure how safe society is once they are released mind

Modise confirms that inmates can be kept in single cell. On admission, there is health assessment of inmate

White people are more likely to be given single cells disabled or not and held in areas away from general population due to risk of attacks.  As OP is disabled and famous, he'll more than likely (should he get prison) be in a single cell and I bet UA will pay for a burly chap to protect him

I've seen documentaries about American prisons but never SA ones, that's why I wondered how bad they were. Are they particularly bad for white inmates then?

Thanks for the info Pengy.

exactly Dame - it happens here

there are obviously white prisoners but the ratio would be something like 1:100 white to black prisoners.  white prisoners are perceived (in my opinion rightly so) to get special privileges and are segregated almost down apartheid lines due to the risk of attack partly fuelled by their treatment being better but also because there is still an element of apartheid thinking in SA   there is also the long memory of how black prisoners have been treated since the apartheid times - think Steve Biko (it's because of him I got interested in SA in the first place)

this is very dry evidence but I'm guessing it's all to dispel the badger's guff from yesterday.  He's coming across as a genuine guy who works hard at his job to also make changes for the better of the prisoners

they have better facilities than some of our prisons...no medical personnel are in prisons now...if you have a chest infection on Friday, you wait until Monday for antibiotics  I have had dealings with prisons in the UK and their lack of medical facilities..my cousins foster son died in a prison after the London riots for pinching a biscuit out of a Greggs bakers that had it's window smashed in... so I am not having much patience for this argument about how soft OP's sentence should be, he didn't pinch a biscuit, he shot four bullets into a room knowing that it was highly likely the person behind that door would not come out alive
