well lookie here...what a shocker

Oscar Pistorius plans to write a book giving his account of what happened when he shot dead his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, and his ordeal in standing trial for her murder, his manager said on Saturday.

The memoir could prove hugely lucrative for the Paralympian but also prompt accusations that he is cashing in on the killing of the 29-year-old model and law graduate.

Judge Chris Greenwood posted in the comments section of the LawThinker:

It seems to me that she believed Oscar IMPLICITLY. At the heart of this is that she therefore accepted that he had no intention to act UNLAWFULLY.
That being the case, her reasoning should have been formulated very, very differently, i.e, sane automatism akin to the “road rage” cases that are well precedented in our law.
...
Only a lunatic would not “understand” that firing 4 shots through a door behind which there is a human or humans will result in death as a matter of probability.

The Judge seems to have been unmindful of the fact that ALL the medical experts EXCLUDED and diminution in Oscar’s mental capacity and appreciation of reality at the time.

Just as in the Casey Anthony case, anyone buying this book in my mind is tacitly agreeing that it's OK to kill a supposed loved one and then play the victim as though they are the one who has been wronged and profit from it.

It makes me sick to my stomach that this man will carry on with his life and to some will still be hero worshipped

 Pengy and  Dame.

Surely Masipa has to give him a stiff sentence [at least ten years?]... she must know she's a laughing stock due to her errors in law. Otherwise it'll be appealed and she'll look a mug. This is what I'm hoping? With her jumbled reasoning she could easily switch back round to being harsh on Oscar.

This is why they have "Son of Sam" laws in the States: to prevent criminals from profiting from their crimes.

I've been reading about this recently with regards to the Meredith Kercher murder case. Amanda Knox has already made millions of dollars from her book deal, etc. and, believe it or not, she actually collects donations through her PayPal account (Raffaele Sollecito also has a book deal, a PayPal donations page and GoFundMe page - although the latter has finally been closed down for breaking T&Cs   )

However: once Italian courts finally confirm the convictions, Knox (and to some extend Sollecito) will finally be targetted by "Son of Sam" laws to claw back that blood money...

Yes....I reckon we should have Son of Sam laws over here too ....there's something very, very wrong about people being able to make money from their crimes

yes, I sort of knew this would happen with it being SA

it was semi-lawless before hand and today they've released crime figures in SA which make dim reading

car jackings and hijacking of cars and robberies up 17%

illegal possession of drugs up 26%

rape down 6.3% sexual offences down by 5.6%

GBH down 1.5%

murder up 5%

attempted murder up 6%

a lot of crime allegedly fuelled by alcohol and drug abuse

this a five year trend

interesting read

The parents of Reeva Steenkamp believe there is more to what happened on the night of their daughter's death than what has emerged in court.

Earlier this month, Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide after he shot his girlfriend Reeva four times through a toilet door on Valentine's Day last year.

But Barry and June Steenkamp have said, for them, it was not "the right verdict". In an interview with Australian channel SBS One, broadcast last night, Barry said he does not believe Pistorius's account that he mistook Reeva for a dangerous intruder.

"He could have gone to the balcony and shouted for help knowing that somebody was there. He could have pressed the alarm system [and] all this would have been prevented," he said. "I feel that there's still a missing link somewhere. I think there's quite a bit more to the whole thing than has been produced so far."

I think the whole world and his dog knows that we haven't had the true story and unfortunately we'll never get the truth because he's into preserving his life
