Its not even funny. A year back, I trashed my [ 5th? 6th? laptop/netbook] so my brother bought me a replacement one for Christmas. By Summer I'd trashed that, and now I'm on to another

I also bulk bought three replacement screens last Autumn... as spares! I'm down to the last one. I broke one of the new screens just refitting it. Total clot I am

Oh - forgot tvs.... not good with those either. Or blenders. Or the air ioniser which broke after I just dusted it.

I seriously don't know why I don't have any luck with my toasters   the one I'm currently using is 2 weeks old - we've got bets at home on how long it lasts

can I be really cruel and laugh at how Eamonn Holmes struggled on Sky News to say the forensic expert of the door's name Mr Vermeulen   I'm evil

I phoned these geezers to clear up the mess you lot have left.

ROFL! I must find that thread on DS, ta Dame.

Roux is really pushing it. Must be hell for the witnesses. There's a saying where I'm from "He'd argue a black crow was white" which sums him up

p.s.sorry about your kettle...

yeah right

I thought the cross examination of the forensic witness looked a bit farcical today Rosie, no-one in their right mind would lower their stance and stick their butt out like that to take a swing at a door..prosthetic's or not, you would not be able to get your full weight behind the swing. I'm still confused as to why he did that when he had a gun with hollow point bullets in that would have easily taken the bathroom lock off. Much was made about his shoulder injury, I'm wondering how he managed to smash the door panel in with his shoulder being so bad that he couldn't even sleep on it.

Roux is on 5.500 a day, so I suppose he's good at what he does, even to the point of intimidation. I am hoping Nel does this to the defence witnesses.

here is the link Rosie, its in the Gereral Discussion forum

Thank you for the link Dame   just had a read, gripping stuff.

At times Roux is farcical. Has he brought up a reasonable doubt so far? By browbeating the witnesses to the point of exhaustion, and even when they hold up well, suggesting they're holding up too well, that that in itself, is suspicious. Gah!

Hard to know what the judge makes of it...

Roux was really thrown with the expert today - I'm struggling to understand why he's considered such a good defence lawyer???? Anyone???

you're very welcome Rosie...I hope the judge takes the case on merit and not on Roux's flannel.

I thought he did too Pengy...and he may be a good defence lawyer in SA, I'm sure he would struggle in front of a jury

I must be watching a different trial from everyone else.

Today, I thought Roux showed up the SA police as incompetent and the forensic department as flawed.

I suppose we all view it differently Yogi, I'm still not totally convinced of his guilt or innocence, what I do think is, whatever the verdict he should be found guilty of culpable homicide. His reckless use of guns, how he handled the situation was either deliberate or downright negligent.

I thought Roux skipped loads of stuff today and concentrated on trying to make the forensic guy look incompetent, I know that's what he's paid to do...but not every single witness can be wrong and unlike you I do think first witness and her husband were being totally honest in what they recalled.

I've been reading OP's original statement..and I think its full of contradictions and not very detailed. It will be interesting to see what Roux says when he has to explain OP changing his statement.

I'm not convinced that he is guilty or innocent of premeditated murder, but he shot someone (no matter who he thought it was) through that bathroom door and killed them and that shouldn't be swept aside.

I thought Roux showed the forensic guy was not as thorough as he should have been and that the detectives investigating the case were sloppy. I think Roux also showed that the evidence ie cricket bat and door were not preserved or stored properly.

The first witness and her husband were far too rehearsed/coached and refused to accept any ambiguity on any point. I'm sure the fact that their friend is an advocate had nothing to do with this. Their testimony had altered from their original statements - always in line with the state's version of events, and somehow they managed to be more certain of what they heard than the neighbours living twice as close to Oscar's house. I took their testimony with a pinch of salt.

I'm sure Roux will explain the lack of detail and any contradictions in Oscar's original statement by his distraught state at that time.

Yogi19

I'm not sure about the distraught state at the time Yogi, I find OP very manipulative and I think there was more to him phoning his manager instead of an ambulance or the police. I find it very strange he carried her down the stairs also.

I just hope Nel his up to his job, but I am fearing lack of funding in the prosecutors office up against big bucks always pays off in the end.

I also thought the point Roux made about how OP would change his stance to hit the door totally unbelievable. important parts he certainly didn't want to delve deeper on some issues.

Dame_Ann_Average

I haven't read up on this murder in any detail, prior to watching the trial, so I am having to form an opinion based on the evidence as it unfolds in court.

I don't understand what you mean about Oscar being manipulative, as we haven't seen him give evidence yet? Were you referring to something else he has done?

I can't explain it Yogi...but I think a lot of how he acts is more for sympathy for his own situation.  I suppose we all perceive people differently, I've never been an admirer of his and I'm trying not to let that cloud my judgement. I honestly think parts of his statement are plausible and some unbelievable.

He seemed really relaxed and smiley today in court on a couple of occasions..a complete contrast from the dramatic display we had the other day.

I agree Dame - something just doesn't sit right.

The throwing up seemed OTT - how many heartbroken family/friends sit through difficult trials without being sick. Very drama queeny. Wouldn't be surprised if Roux gave OP something to unsettle his stomach beforehand.

I did find it all very staged and Roux bending over him and asking if he was ok Rosie and my client knows it will get worse but will sit through it
