On BBC1 now.  Heartbreaking  I never usually watch stuff like this but it has been on in the background so I started watching.  The video evidence is shocking  How must that woman have felt watching people treat her mother like that?!

Sadly it's not the only case of abuse in care homes across the country.  Makes me more adamant that I'd never put my parents in a care home.  I worked in one for a while and saw first hand how horrible it is.

I was going to watch Ells..... but I just couldn't bear to It's dreadful that we have to be scared of getting old and having to end up somewhere like that

I know that's an extreme case, but the care profession is in a helluva state - there's an agency not far from here that give folk a day's training and half a shift " shadowing" another team member , then send them out on their own to clients homes - not fair on either the carers or those on the receiving end.

I'm not surprised he switched it off....it was really upsetting.

Me neither.  His mother died in one last year and the whole thing from her going in to her dying was just a disgrace.

Slinks it's a disgrace.  Horrible just horrible.  After the way we had to watch Mr Cinds mother die, his Father asked us not to let him die in hospital or a 'home'.

Sadly his Dad had to go in to hospital at the end, even though we didn't know it was the end at the time.  But on the day he died when we knew it was coming we asked for him to go in to one of the side rooms if we couldn't take him home.  They said 'No' because they were only for people that might be infectious. So we had to sit with him while he died during visiting hour.

I didn't get any training.  I was just made to follow people round and help them do what they were supposed to do.  Then 2 weeks in I was given jobs to do on my own that 1) I wasn't qualified to do and 2) should have been done by 2 people.

I reported a staff member for slapping a resident on the hand.....maybe sounds silly as it was 'only' the hand but it was wrong!!  He'd had a stroke and couldn't lift his arm up to put through his sleeve and the carer slapped his hand and told him to stop being lazy.  Nothing was done about it except the carer in question was obviously told it was me who made the report and her and the other carers made it too awkward for me to stay.

I was only 17 so didn't realise that I should have taken the whole thing further.

Ells

i couldnt watch it,

ive said on here before about how my dad was treated,

they stole off him, i was threatened by the matron/head! she ripped one of my piercings out FFS!

i called cops, they didnt do eff all

i made sure it got investigated by the council

the matron/home came through with flying colours

everyone covered up for everyone else

she was an absolute bitch

her nickname was eva as in eva braun

and that wasnt the patients who nicknamed her, it was the staff in selly oak hospital

to balance it up-my dad went on to a great home and was well looked after and well treated

Doesn't sound silly at all , no carer should ever lift a hand to a resident .

I noticed a real cliquey culture with the home carers that went into my dad's - a crowd of them really picked on one carer ( who actually was brilliant with my dad )

i tell ya

that first place was bloody awful

i went for a look before he went in,

it seemed great, staff were great, they 'court' you because they want your money and dont want you

going somewhere else

after i got the cops they gave my dad a few days notice to get out

the place he went to after was recommended by a family doctor friend

only complaint my dad had about the new place was that they didnt give him enough food

but that was cos he was greedy lol

good and bad everywhere

so some advice

dont be lulled into the first or even second place you look at

speak to the patients or the relatives to get an idea of the place

dont listen to the staff

It was a disgrace, because once he had died they shoved us all out of the way to put him in the side room they said he couldn't have to die with dignity.  And that was in a hospital, not a home/hospice.

That's the key word - dignity. That should underpin all practice within the NHS. Sadly ,it's been sidelined .

Selly Oak Hospital is a horrible place!! The QE is much better, Selly Oak is dirty, you are left waiting around for hours and the staff are either just really busy and knackered or total arses! And to think that where they take the injured soldiers.

Come to think of it, here in Notts we have Queens (A&E) and City, and the one with A&E (Queens) is crap aswell

*Edit i realise now you mean Selly oak care home, not hospital.....
