Angel told me Hastings and I was thinking Stirling....William Wallace. I dunno Big Grin

Bit of a dispute as to where William landed; it was actually nearer Pevensey - Norman's Bay in fact.
So I think it could be a Wallace reference.

I can't stop thinking 'Sheffield' but that isn't right.

Found this (from Wiki so it could be tosh):

The name Sheffield is Old English in origin.[22] It derives from the River Sheaf, whose name is a corruption of shed or sheth, meaning to divide or separate.[23] Field is a generic suffix deriving from the Old English feld, meaning a forest clearing.[24] It is likely then that the origin of the present-day city of Sheffield is an Anglo-Saxon settlement in a clearing beside the confluence of the rivers Sheaf and Don founded sometime between the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in this region (roughly the 6th century) and the early 9th century.[1]

I think you're in the right ballpark

I was thinking something that started with 'cast' instead, like 'casterbridge' but I can't think of anywhere else...

But someone else mentioned 'real' - maybe a synonym of that as well?

I like the Sheffield one but Sheffield is more famous for it's forged steel isn't it? I might well be wrong. The let's holiday UK maybe suggests that it's holiday resorts as well and no offence to Sheffield and I have been there a few times, but I wouldn't choose it as my holiday spot Smiler
