You don't drive through Exeter. Stay on the M5 past Exeter and then you have and then get on the A30 then straight through round the back of Torbay and down to Plymouth (A303)then straight across the River Tamar then down through Cornwall and then turn right to Newquay. Seriously it is that simple. Cornwall is an absolute doddle to drive round.

AA routeplanner will help, but honestly, it's a really simple (and beautiful) drive.

I think you're describing the A38. The A30 goes straight into Cornwall, whereas the A38 goes around the houses and you have to go through Plymouth and cross the bridge into Cornwall, then you hit very bad traffic, I wouldn't recommend it. Smiler

Nah, maybe I just worded it badly, I know what I meant LOL! It's right at the junction as you come off the M5 instead of left (which is the way I have to go up Telegraph Hill Frowner and as you say, yeah round the houses and a pain in the arse, hence my last post) Big Grin

thanks for that - I think its just my old cousin stuck in her ways. She still can't give me an answer as to why she wants to go thru Exeter

You have to change her mind. Exeter is a complete nightmare to drive through.
she was telling me how bad it was to get thru so we had to leave at a certain time. Will have to show her this thread

Whidch direction are you come from?

Down the M5 or from the A303?

We do the drive London to St Ives every year and it is such a doddle now we join the M5 just past Exeter Airport and go for 2 junctions on there and leave again on to A30...take the Bodmin turnoff...and the A30 has been massively improved in recent years too.
I am just above midlands. I'll do the M42 to M5 & completely miss Exeter I think Nod
