Just looking for advice and other peoples experiences really.

So my daughter is moving out and going to uni in September on a 4yr course and I'm thinking of moving to a smaller place probably a flat as I won't need the size of the house and garden where I am now but I would leave it a while to make sure she's settled and won't be wanting to come home all the time (if she did, I would keep the house on) but I'm then thinking this is the only home she's ever known and should I stay.

So did you stay when your kids flew the nest or think sod it and moved

I am, been here a long time but financially on my own I would be better else where, I just know as a child I always go "home" when I need mum and dad and I wouldn't want her to feel I'd upped and ran if you know what I mean

No, by what you've told us about her, she's a sensible girl and if you explain that you haven't upped and ran she would be fine with it. You're still her mother and she knows she can come back to you and you will be there for her whatever

Eventually my parents moved a few times after I'd left.  Never felt like I wasn't 'going home' despite not having lived in their later homes.  And I still say I'm popping round 'home' now.

I doubt L'il Aims will be overly bothered....as long as you let her know your new address

She got a telephone message to say her dad was seriously ill in hospital, so went in to see him. Mother had been in there for days, so my friend offered to go to her mum and dad's home and pick up some stuff for her mum.

As the mum handed my friend the house keys she said 'by the way, we moved 6 months ago' and gave my friend their new address.

I have rooms that I don't go into for days on end - what's the point of that?

^^ I've just realised that makes me sound like I live in a mansion ^^

ermmmm, not quite

Same predicament here.

Then I peep in all their old bedrooms and think how nice they look without the bodies occupying them

OMG Cosi ... the youngest (who is at home atm) went to a festival today. She was out of the door for two minutes, then I was in there cleaning and sorting. It looks lovely now

She'll hate me when she gets back

I never worry about other people's houses ... only mine

Having said that, I got bitten by a flea at my friend's house on Monday ... her cat is dying, it's so old it cannot walk two steps and it smells awful. Now it's jumping with fleas. I shan't be visiting again till it's visited the vet
