You folk are so good at helping out so I'm adding myself to the advice needed queue. Smiler

I bought Mr Skive a new phone for his birthday last week but he didn't like it because the keypad was too small for his fingers. Roll Eyes So I took it back and said it was faulty and exchanged it for a different model.

Unfortunately I didn't realise the new one was a locked phone. He doesn't want to change networks and so we tried an onine unlocking service but they said they couldn't do it and had lots of trouble with this model (Nokia 7100 supernova).

Anyway today he tried several shops and only one said they could unlock it by sending it to Manchester for ÂĢ30. The phone cost ÂĢ60 so that doesn't seem worth it.

I can't take it back to the shop again as he's opened it and I already used the faulty excuse when I took the first one back.

Does anyone know what we can do? Can I complain to Nokia about it being locked to a network we don't want?

Thanks. Smiler

Might take a while to find the right one but maybe if you search 'unlock nokia 7100 gsm forum'' in google it might take you to the page that you need. They don't have unlock codes for all fones and sometimes it's not very easy to unlock but it's worth a look.

Thanks Ella, I'll give it a look but we tried loads of online sites and they all said that this model was a real pain to unlock. Trust me to choose it. Roll Eyes

Mr Skive wants me to take it back to the shop as it was their fault for not telling me it was locked to O2. I feel bad tho cos I already took the first one back claiming it was faulty. Blush

Have you tried O2? They will probably charge you to unlock it but it might be, say, ÂĢ20. I had an Orange phone unlocked for that. PAYG phones sometimes have a bit of subsidy bit in to the topup charges but not that much.

I could try that. I'm sure if I took it back to the shop (it was a supermarket so they tend to be more into customer service and goodwill and all that) they'd probs exchange it but I'm a bit embarrassed cos they'll think I'm a right pisstaker. Blush

I know that tghey would unlock your 'phone for a fiver, especially if you told 'em a hard luck story. It seemed a very quick job. However maybe the technology is more complex now?

There's lots of 'dodgy' places I could try round here but I think this model is new and Mr Skive has already tried a few 'dodgy' places near his work and he reckons Nokia have developed their technology to make it harder to unlock.

If I email them and explain the situation and claim to be a loyal customer maybe they'll send me an email saying take it back and I can just take a print out of the email with me to the shop and save my blushes?

Just to let you know i did just this

I wanted to unlock my phone - you will lose your sent texts and possibly most others

Unless your numbers are SAVED TO THE PHONE - you run the risk of losing them too

BUT THEY WON'T TELL YOU THIS

... and get all your pics off that phone if you hae any cos they sent me a PAC unlocking code that jammed my phone and i lost everything
