For the last week or so I've had probs on my Mac (OS X). It has been totally freezing on Safari when I have gagajoyjoy loaded although none if I'm not there and I've had to unplug it to start it up again. I've been told that is bad for the comp if you do it too often. I've cleared my cache but haven't the foggiest what coookies are and how to clear them if that's the issue.
My bro normally sorts this crap out for me but he's gone on holiday for 10 days... Crying
If anyone can help, please explain this as if to someone who was never convinced that a wheel works best if it's circular... Crazy

I'm on Safari and Mac..... and it does freeze on me sometimes.... like tonight! but I usually find that if I log out and back in again that frees it. However, I think the probs we are having have more to do with the forum than either the Mac or Safari, cos others are also having trouble Thumbs Up

Have you tried going to the Apple sign in the top left hand corner... click on it and then clicking on Force Quit... then on Safari. That should close it down without having to pull the plug Thumbs Up

OK.... that has happened to me too.... but if you move the cursor onto another programme in the dock...say mail.... that should stop the freeze and *beach-balling*.... and let you then click on the Apple.

You might want to try to reset Safari. This will return Safari back to its default stage.

To do this simply click on Safari (top left hand corner) scroll down and click on reset Safari.

It will have a list of blue ticked boxes, if you to reset ALL of the ticked items simply click RESET.

OK... but before I do, does that lose anything like fave sites etc?

Mr Q said you should clear your permissions at least once a month.

To do this you...

1. Double click on the Macintosh icon on the desktop this will launch your browser window.

2. Double click on the Applications folder.

3. Click on any time item ONCE, then hit the U on the keyboard. This should take you to the start of your applications starting with U. You should now be able to see a folder called Utilities. Double click on this folder.

4. Press the D button on your keyboard, you should see an icon called Disk Utility. Double click on this icon.

5. Now you're in the Disk Utility programme, on the left hand side of the page, you should see a white box. At the top of the box, the words 'Macintosh HD', this is your hard drive. Click to hilight it.

6. Look on the centre of this dialogue box, there's a button that says 'Repair disks permissions', click it.

7. This will start a clean up of your disk which may take several mins.

Hopefully this should resolve your problem, if not I suggest you re install Safari.

What a team!!! You were both superb!! Hopefully now I'll be able to get my head around going to LiveCloud! It was really preying on my mind. By the way, would you just ask him if it's true the unplugging thing when everything freezes really is bad for my comp... or am I now pushing my luck? Laugh

He says it is true because your computer hard drive is a magnetic disk so imagine a record, the needle gets to the end of the record and should return to the start however by shutting your computer down you're preventing the needle going back to the park position...thus increasing the likelihood of disk errors.

Additionally your computer creates a crash register and tries to repair any damage however if you continue to switch your computer off prematurely you prevent the necessary repairs.

ps....he stopped fixing the cistern in the bathroom to answer you....the fecker is playing up when I flashed the toilet 25 mins ago. Call him Jack of all trades Big Grin
