The last few years April and May have been our better months actually, as long as you're in the vicinity of Keswick, Ambleside or Windermere there's always plenty to do or see all weathers and I love April in the lakes

meant to add at the end of last April I was driving to Cockermouth and came to the brow of an hill, it was a beautiful warm day, then I clapped eyes on the snow topped hills, wonderful sight.

Really? Apart from spending the day drinking tea in the Skiddaw I can't think of anything! Is the Schwitters exhibition still on at Ambleside?

Do you mean at the Museum GJ, last time I heard it was still there, and wasn't there some talk about renovating a barn that he once used, I don't know if that ever come off to be honest. I can wander about Keswick or Ambleside happily for a couple of hours, but I suppose it's whatever takes your interest.

My oldest spends loads of time at the lakes, last time she was there she hooked a duck, literally.

She was trying to fish and as she cast off she hooked a duckling....as she attempted to unhook it the Mammy duck started pecking at her toes and attacking her.  She fed it a maggot to "make sure it's mouth still worked"...then promptly became a vegetarian.

I used to fish at Bassenthwaite when I was married, but I could never do the maggots, I had to get my ex to load the hook and take the fish off if I caught anything...I was crap

Can't quote on the 'phone but yes I meant the schwitters exhibition at ambleside museum. The Beatrix potter bit was great too! Sixpence to anyone who can remember which world leader she is watching ride a horse through the pass! Schwitters merz barn was indeed reconstructed in Newcastle. I have also visited his grave and seen all of his art work. He is a family hero having escaped the Nazis twice.

I think Damien Hirts was trying to get the original merz barn renovated at Langdale, I'm not sure if it's still on going or he's dropped the project. I know a little about him, and only seen a little of his artwork GJ.

I see my predictive text renamed schwitters! The film show in Ambleside shows a lot of his original work which one can see in the sprenger museum in hannover which is where his grave lies. We filmed a suitable tribute he would have appreciated but the bits he did locall survive in the lakes. use

Next time I'm up there I'll have a good nose about, you've perked my curiosity to find out more about him Joe, I did notice the schwitters, but I'm crap with predictive text so I understood immediately

I'm off to bed now but must just say that one of my fave moments was on a particular Sunday driving down the road listening to Desert island discs when Daniel Liebeskind (or someone of a similar mis-spelt name) requested Ursonate. Mrs Joe had thought that I made it up when I used to perform it.

I'm with Mrs Joe on this one  night, night
